It is our sacred queer history that the AIDs crisis "wiped out a generation of gay men", as many as 20% were HIV positive at the height of the crisis.
What's ignored is that the rate for trans women suffering and dying from HIV/AIDs was 49x higher. It was actually us that got wiped out. 1/4

Notably the reason a lot of trans women don't have firsthand experience of how bad things were back then is because the ones that were alive back then are mostly dead now, like, at a significantly higher rate.
