I'm seeing a lot of people saying Trump blinked. I'm not sure that's totally right, though the upshot is the same. If you start building a house and you both don't have any 2x4s and aren't willing to buy any eventually you're going to have to admit that the house isn't going to get built.

IN FACT, I never kill off people I don't like in my books, why would I give them the honor of existing in my prose. I only kill off friends, often messily, and usually with their permission ("Hey, mind if I totally kill a character with your name?"). Most are delighted to be (fictionally) offed.

I think at least some people who think they would have been more economically successful if they were grifters probably wouldn't have been, because being a "successful" grifter requires a certain, possibly sociopathic personality, and a lot of people are just not built that way.
I am curious about the effect that almost everyone I know, even people who are doing relatively well, thinks they would be more successful economically if they sacrificed their ethical principles and just became a grifter of some sort.
so like lemme weigh in on this as someone who is more financially comfortable than many in my generational cohort: everything I have gained seems precarious and temporary because I know the people with real money will take it all from me the second they get an opportunity and no one will protect me.
