The fact that Musk himself is sponsoring so many of the anti-trans ads this cycle presents a pretty golden opportunity for Dems to point out that of course the guy who literally wants to build a gas-powered data center in your backyard wants this election to be about trans people.

if you’re cis, imagine if there were an ad campaign that said “people named [YOUR NAME] are pervert freaks who endanger our children. vote for us and we’ll make them all go away” and it appeared in every commercial break, sporting event, and newspaper. every day. for years. how would that feel?
I don't think people really understand the psychic impact of knowing that multiple times a day every day your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and everyone who could ever have any power over you is being flooded with agitprop designed to make them hate you
i've seen this ad three times already today

The disconnect between the average cis centrist and what being trans is like is that if you're a trans woman, it's pretty much impossible to get hired by a normal job right now. Like if it's a bad economy for cis people, it's impossible for us so we're all in very precarious positions.

blues: we are going to move right on trans issues because we have judged the votes of trans voters to be worthless

some trans ppl: because our votes are worthless, we will not vote

blues: what the fuck? you better provide your worthless votes or we all get screwed
this shit does not work on me. go try it on the centrists who call trans women "biological men."

a reminder that more hillary clinton voters voted for john mccain than bernie voters voted for trump either time. just like how more democrats in florida in 2000 straight up voted for bush than voted for nader. the left are never the actual problem.
"why are liberals so on edge about voting abstention?"

because bernie-or-bust was a real thing & it cost us 2016

it is remarkable that this has happened despite a near-unanimous effort from mainstream politicians and news media to prevent it from happening. there's some hope there
During the First and Second Intifadas the gap was, like, 40-50 points. Now that's not only gone but it's gone negative. Incredible work really.

because if people show up for progressive candidates but not for centrist candidates it'll require them to admit they were wrong, which they hate more than losing

Every time one of these stories comes out, it's shown that the parents were actually abusive. There is an asymmetry where the parents are given a platform by Christian nationalist orgs and Fox News while the state cannot discuss any details due to privacy. So the narrative is set by the parents.

This is where the right thrives. They love situations where the other party cannot respond publicly. It's why they target schools and make wild accusations against teachers and administrators. Privacy laws prevent them from adequately responding or setting the record straight.

And of course the actual child at the center of all of it is deprived of a voice of what they want. They're treated as property of the parents and not a human being who has volition and can articulate that they have been abused by their parents.

There needs to be an axiom called Younger's law: if you're a parent who runs to Christian nationalist orgs or Fox News to claim you weren't abusive to your trans kid after the state took them away, you are in fact abusive by virtue of nationalizing the story for propaganda.

Saying, "Free Palestine," gets you cancelled.

Promoting Nazi slogans and conspiracy theories, gets you elected as a Republican and supported by pro-Israel donors and advocacy groups.

Nice, nice.

Nice.

This whole thread.
Hormones shape biology.
Sex change is real, and trans women are not "biologically men."
And just in case some cis people still don't get it: HRT (and trans surgeries) fundamentally change our bodies in ways that lumping trans women in with cis men (or indeed trans men in with cis women) actively and intentionally ignores to achieve a decidedly unscientific (and bigoted) agenda.

This is what has happened with Labour in the UK. Most people don't believe that Labour could be transphobic - they aren't the Tories or Reform after all - and refuse to see it, and they are the most transphobic government of my life.

So much harder to fight against, so much more damage done.
this is what we're all telling you. a democratic majority that includes talarico and others like him is more dangerous to us. because the 'reasonable' versions of anti-trans bills will get written and passed and you all will go back to brunch and not care. you don't care what happens to us.
