Lots of us pointing out the unsupervised algorithmic decision & $39.95 charged for blank page that says, “This article has been withdrawn due to article violation.”

But Springer Nature also killed an editorial that the editor-in-chief of Naturwissenschaften planned to write about the retractions.
Truly bizarre story of how two papers from the 1940s by physics pioneer Max Planck have been "retracted" from Naturwissenschaften, potentially by an algorithm, for anachronistic "plagiarism" issues, leaving the current editor baffled (but it is Springer Nature so....

Why have papers by one of history’s most famous physicists been retracted?
Springer Nature has removed two studies by Max Planck. A bot may be to blame

Tony Bourdain taught us all that a place is full of good food, good people, and good experiences despite very shitty politics and I think it’s kind of classically American to have thought we were excluded from that Venn diagram

Remember this scene the next time a corporate reporter tries to insist that a rural diner full of white men in their 60s is somehow a more authentically "American" place, somehow more representative of who we are as a nation.

Hey, look at Substack promoting Andrew Tate as the #1 new bestseller. The company's amoral leadership & backers will platform anyone, even ludicrously toxic rapists & human traffickers.

I fully acknowledge that describing Santos-Aviles death as a suicide is 1000% accurate statement cause that's what it was but the horrific nature of her suicide via self-immolation feels overlooked when described as such.
Democratic Rep Swalwell is resigning from Congress. Good. A step towards accountability.

Simultaneously, MAGA Rep Tony Gonzales (who is married) lied about an affair with his aide, Regina Santos-Aviles (who was married). Santos-Aviles later died by suicide.

Gonzales faces ZERO GOP accountability.

What Tim's been put through by the federal government just for doing journalism is absolutely horrific.
some good news for once. Judge Sansone has again rejected the government's claim that I am a dangerous criminal who needs strict supervision & thus as of today am free to travel anywhere in the continental u.s., no longer have daily random drug tests, etc. Thank you to everyone who helped out.

Already annoyed about the coming books full of anonymous senior officials telling every ugly behind-the-scenes detail about the effort to hide Trump’s dementia like it is some fucking revelation when it seems like most of the planet already knows and legacy media are the ones not saying it.

I don't know, guys. The president started a war with no plan and crashed the world economy, is building immense monuments to himself, is making billions off the presidency, and is now attacking the Pope while presenting himself as Jesus. Maybe the political class should abandon the inside voice.

One whole thing with Platner stans is this idea he is the only one who can win and framing it as a Dem vs GOP thing. This is a *primary* his presence has deterred other candidates who ... don't have Nazi tattoos.
Platner's dismissive comments about sexual assault in the military were so disgusting that a candidate who had experienced assault in the service dropped out to endorse Mills rather than risk Platner getting into the senate. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/progressiv...

This is the long and short of the discussion in one simple post. We can continue to make excuses or we can start making progress today.
“OUR city isn’t [insert name of a much more livable & successful city here].”

Trust me, we know that. It’s abundantly obvious that you’re not that city.

That city made, and continues to make, much better choices with fewer excuses.

The real question is, do you want YOUR city to be better or not?
