Seeing the Brewers and Rays being described as "teams who play the game the right way instead of just listening to computers" is further proof that analytics just means "things I don't like" and that people have somehow gotten dumber about this stuff over the last decade

A reminder that this year the AL has the game, day off, game, day off, game format this year; and that it is the dumbest format ever conceived for a five-game series.

The now biggest annual sports buzzkill of the entire year is the first week of the MLB postseason somehow having zero games on Friday

Yeah because it’s the first game not happening with 20,000 people there because it’s 2:00 in the fucking afternoon.

For a lot of people "analytics" are just when a manager makes a decision that doesn't work out in a way that confirms their priors.

Are we going to acknowledge that the Braves bucked this convention in Game 1, let Chris Sale pitch the seventh inning for only the eighth time all season, and he gave up a HBP, both of whom came around to score and nearly cost the Braves the game?

No, we only talk about the other situations? Weird

Tremendous column from Tyler. People in the game need to listen.

@TylerKepner It’s the postseason. Why is it suddenly so dangerous to let a good starter keep rolling? A column from a Red Sox fiasco in the Bronx: https://t.co/DH0WVV0lxb

I realize Cubs fandom might not be in a place for nuance right now with how it went in SD but really felt Padres’ hot streak into playoffs and getting series at Petco where they’re dominant was a terrible combo that the Cubs only have themselves to blame for blowing their home-field WC lead in Sept.

There will be plenty of time to dissect the Cubs’ failures and path forward in ensuing days, weeks, months but this SD series felt like a reminder that if you don’t secure a bye or home-field advantage in WC, you expose yourself/the team more to the randomness that can happen in a 2-3 game series.

Craig Counsell after the Padres swept the Cubs: "When you're in this position, you're going to be disappointed. You're going to feel unfulfilled. That's just dominating everything you feel right now. Maybe as you reflect, I think I can get to some better places. Right now that's all I feel."

RIP Cubs 2026.

PCA season was amazing and I’m grateful, pitching injuries too much to overcome, but also: it continues to burn that this organization with all its resources keeps getting lapped by Milwaukee. This year felt like a step back.

Not that it really mattered in this game, but why dont hitters challenge any called third strike that ends the game, whats the downside? Maybe he wins it, gets a hit/walk and pads bring miller in
