There’s a bizarre contrarianism in the Democratic Party, where, if an idea catches on with the base it’s treated as presumptively unreasonable forever. Not even an effort to *appear* to be supportive. Politicians used to pander!

Flattered to have been included in Arvo Zylo’s 13 Questions interview series even though I mostly talked about the Grateful Dead and Agnes Varda

What’s the best/worst way a show has handled a show’s pregnancy? For me…

Best: It’s Always Sunny, with a shout-out to X-Files

Worst: Frasier and it doesn’t seem close. And Fraser is one of my all-time favorite shows ever.

this stuff loses a lot of regular people like me, wins no one on the right, and undermines efforts to build unity in a coalition that go back to AOC backing biden. with elections right around the corner, does the dem party have a toxic centrist problem?

Whenever I see a poll like this I always like to remind people that approval for interracial marriage in the US did not cross the 50% mark until 1994, when I was already in my twenties.
Pew Research Center poll on “transgender athletes competing on sports teams that don’t match their birth sex”:

• 27% of American adults are somewhat/very/extremely comfortable with it
• 73% are not comfortable with it

Democrats are also NOT comfortable with it: 55-44% margin.

The fact that Hasan isn’t going anywhere and will still likely be supporting and campaigning for DSA candidates in 2028 only proves that libs are well aware the only thing they’re doing is helping Republicans win in Michigan and there really isn’t a non-racist explanation why they’re doing that.
One of the things that scrambles lib brains w re: Hasan (and you saw this dynamic w Chapo also) is they have precisely no leverage over him

Just a heads up. I was able to schedule my COVID vaccine appointment. Online it may ask “do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19 virus.”

Click yes and it will allow you to schedule an appointment.

No questions asked.

No proof required.

Pass it on.

As a general rule that applies not only to charitable giving but to many areas is that reducing transaction costs is by default good. A flaw of libertarianism is the assumption that government adds transaction costs when it's actually a powerful reducer of them when used correctly.
The reason you want an actual humanitarian aid system and *don’t* want to force everybody to rely on online mutual aid is because online mutual aid *forces people experiencing horrific trauma* to perform on the Internet for survival.

it is in fact just the media, which has devoted more attention to this than it has to the fact that multiple republican lawmakers are dealing with “we hired nazis” scandals and that the “we hired nazis” problem extends to the white house
Tur: It’s not just the media, and I reject that framing. 6 in 10 Americans don’t know who he is. I’m not saying he’s the most important person in the world, but...is it worth losing votes you need to win?

Reactionary centrists pretend to be saying "disavow Piker to make this all go away, so it doesn't hurt your electoral chances," but they know as well as we do that 1) "disavowing" does not make anything go away, it keeps it in the news, and 2) they don't *want* it to go away! It's all a farce.
This only "becomes a political and moral crisis" if reactionary centrists relentlessly frame it as one.

I have two zines up for pre-order: one is about the X-Men (#1 in a series) and the other is about some very odd movies that Elizabeth Taylor starred in. Each is over 60 pages and done in the format of a personal essay 💗 sara-century.square.site for this and my previously released film zines.

It’s wild we went from ticketing services not telling you how much fees are to not telling you how much tickets cost before they go on sale. City Winery will give you the option to sign up for a waiting list for *sold out* shows and still not tell you how much they cost.
