The media gave more coverage to a totally fake, invented idea that the federal government was withholding aid to Hurricane Helene victims in 2024 than to Trump actually doing it in 2025/26. Why did the fake story get more coverage than the real one?
Ahead of the midterms, Trump isn’t even being subtle about his brazen politicization of federal disaster relief aid, explicitly tying approvals to campaign endorsements and election results.

It’s one of the underappreciated scandals of his second term.

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.

These third country deportations are among the most evil acts of the Trump administration. They're trying to extrajudicially punish people for seeking asylum, up to and including with death.
Great reporting from @emilybregel.bsky.social about a gay man who’s been in the US since he was four, imprisoned in a “hotel” in Equatorial Guinea since April.

He says he’s being denied soap and toilet paper in retaliation for filing a complaint w African Commission. 1/

it's not really inexplicable. it's perfectly understandable if you understand that they hate women and want them to be pushed out of the workforce.
One of the signs that MAGA is a true death cult is how their list of targets is otherwise inexplicable. Even under the most cynical partisan analysis, there's no reason to consider nurses, therapists, and PAs their enemies. MAGA does this because they want healthcare resources to be scarce.
“The move disqualifies loans for those studying for careers as advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language therapists, social workers, counseling and mental health practitioners,..”

In December, SCOTUS stayed a district court ruling blocking TX from using its new maps because the lower court ruled "on the eve of an election."

That district court ruling was issued 15 weeks before the TX primaries.

Callais was issued *17 days* before the LA primaries.
This is partisanship at its rawest. SCOTUS has clamped down on lower courts for rulings that could alter maps many *months* before an election—even when those maps have been judged illegal.

Here, it's rushing to let the Louisiana GOP change a map *while an election is underway.*
BREAKING: SCOTUS grants the Callais plaintiffs' request to issue the judgment now, meaning the ruling goes into effect and back to the district court immediately.

This was done over a strong dissent from Jackson — prompting Alito (w Thomas & Gorsuch) to author an opinion concurring with the grant.

I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength

I agree that we can’t make Alex Pretti a Benedictine monk because that’s a trap, but we can talk about the good things we did because people will see and hear them and think “I do those things too”
