I think the "events" part kinda explains things right?
Emergent circumstances can push public opinion in either direction, everyone is making calculations about how long the increased salience of various issues will last, and can sometimes precede a backlash in the other direction. Kirkmas, 9/11 etc

I think what's difficult to swallow is that this also applies to cases less clear-cut than Nader

I'm not sure where you're going with this, doesn't the fact that we have manifested a difficult problem through the forces of technology and capital kinda indicate it's urgency? Like, if even if you aren't a doomer, the fact that we have added a new layer of remove for finance and defense is.. bad?

The 'all' part seems like the only part that is an exaggeration; they don't know everything that's in the model, they know the model will work worse if they try to start filtering out information that could be dangerous, which will result in *some* people getting killed by homebrew weapons

B) Republicans did it and forced Democrats
C) Except nobody did anything because Republicans can reverse their decision at any point

That's very untrue. Steinem once told Terry Gross that she didn't marry until her sixties because "first I had to reinvent the institution of marriage." Women had no economic equality in the workplace, no equal access, no right against marital rape, sexual harassment...
