Is "consuming" media what we would call it when we communicate over the internet? We do more than consume on the internet.
Is every person we interact with on the internet our "friend"? We interact with more than friends on the internet.

Can social media be addictive?

@taylorlorenz.bsky.social says no.

“You wanting to communicate and chat with your friends every day is not an addiction,” says Lorenz. “And to frame it that way is incredibly harmful and anti-science.”

I must not engage in discourse. Discourse is the vibe-killer. I will face the discourse. I will permit it to pass over me and around me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the discourse has gone there will be nothing. Only vibe will remain.

She adds, "But Republicans have made it a big attack on you," which is a telling statement.

Stated simply: We don't find it newsworthy either, but it's our job to use talking points from one side and parrot them back to the other side. If not, we'll be accused of bias. (Also, my boss is Bari Weiss)

That's very untrue. Steinem once told Terry Gross that she didn't marry until her sixties because "first I had to reinvent the institution of marriage." Women had no economic equality in the workplace, no equal access, no right against marital rape, sexual harassment...

The thing is you have to be a party hack right now if you care about good things because basically nothing matters more than republicans losing and democrats winning, but lots of people want to not be party hacks more than they want good things.

Keep this in mind the next time someone shows you a map of those big empty chunks of the country colored red. We have been plodding towards this end ever since we baked the land vote into the structure of our government.

There's basic structural reasons why this doesn't happen, and a good chunk of it has to do with the forces of race and gender than select within the Republican party. However, that lazy start not even the worst part of this argument...
Imagine if as JD Vance was campaigning for senate in 2022, if a group of "moderate" Republicans were like, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, JD is campaigning with EXTREMIST Charlie Kirk, and we must condemn him!!!" And then over and over, for days on end, they just put out statements denouncing Kirk.

Clanker isn't bad bc it's offensive to machines, it's bad bc you are evoking real slurs and the aesthetics of racism for an inane joke. I don't care if people have a mean term for AI, but saying shit like "clanker lover" or doing Jim Crow cosplay but with robots, it's like, chill out and be normal.

I find this argument incoherent--Mr. Craig seems to be approaching from the position that top two increases polarization, but the person he's quoting is complaining that it limits the flank of the party because Republicans give an edge to the moderate.

Which is it?
It's a bad system, perhaps the only idea genuinely and unambiguously worse than traditional FPTP and party primaries. I'm an electoral reform nerd and I would vote against it. California's very likely to repeal it soon, it's been such a complete failure.
Ugh: A new Massachusetts poll has a 51-32 lead for a ballot initiative to adopt the top-two “primary” system.

This system has been a wreck in California. The majority party frequently risks getting shut out of general elections, so party organizations often pick favorites in primaries to avoid that
