Separately, whether the likes of ViaSat, Gogo and Panasonic can continue to compete is another question. I could defintiely see a situation where StarLink kills them off but eventually implodes itself (due to high capex costs and lack of scalability), leaving passengers with zero options.

Based on what @wandrme.paxex.aero has written about how, when the airines were negotiating these deals, Starlink wanted the airlines to pay for the service, rather than making it available for purchase by pax. To me, that was about locking in guarenteed revenue ahead of the IPO.

In capitalism, the idea is to make money. In this, the idea is to sell the dream of profitability to a VC when the company is losing money faster than the Titanic is taking on water. "With all this 🐴💩, there's gotta be a pony here somewhere."

Combining Fedex and Kinkos made a lot more sense than this does, but maybe I'm missing something.

I think a lot of AI hype has been driven by the fact that if you're an AI company, and your goals are finite and achievable, there's a ceiling on your valuation. If you're shooting for the moon, trying to do the impossible, with no limit to adressable market or growth, your valuation has no limits.

A lot of today's "pro-Palestinian activism" is actually just people talking themselves into believing the hatred they felt for Jews on Oct 6, 2023 is actually virtuous.

San Diego was near the top of USSR target list for a reason. That Trump said what he said, and either didn’t know or didn’t care about that is just par for the course.

I‘ve seen quite a few people ascribing ideological motives to Ellison’s actions but I really don’t see it, and a lot of people want to frame him as a Trumpist for their own purposes. Weiss’s hiring could easily have been window dressing for regulatory approval.

The Pasadena courthouse is beautiful, but gets an asterisk in the list of beautiful courthouses because it was originally built as a hotel, and then was a hospital before becoming a courthouse. I worked there too.

“Sure, go ahead and take out the headquarters of the Pacific Fleet” is very on brand for this Commander in Chief.

You’re the Lawfare editor most likely to require me to break out a dictionary during a podcast.

Also, your Matt Damon/PRC tirade on RatSec was hysterical. I never saw it coming.

The thing that I’m really curious about is the state of the aircraft when the deadheading crew entered the cockpit. I’ve seen reporting that says one of the passengers who helped retake control pulled the plane out of its dive but the FDR and CVR will tell the real story.

As long as it’s an adequate proxy for the BONE from a pilot perspective, the cost per flight house has to be less than 10% of the B-1B.

Absolutely insane numbers on data center buildout. I haven’t vetted these by they’re about right based on memory/back of the envelope.

There's a trend: with whether it's crypto, digital real estate, NFT's or AI, VC's are trying to will their investments to success by convincing everyone that they have to buy into the trend, or else they're going to get left behind. bsky.app/profile/trav...
1/ I think I can trace a lot of this tech hype bubble phenomenon to the instutionalization of venture capital. In the world before the financial crisis VC firms were relatively small, as were their fund sizes and investments. When they hit it big, the multiple was massive but on a smaller investment

Yeah, but if UA booked you the flight, they should have you flying there and at least a fleet type. I have multiple LH group flights that I booked on UA codes that just aren't there.
October 1, 2026 at 12:47 PM
Also, no UA codes on LH flights.
