Elections have a way of clarifying who matters to political parties (car owners) and whose priorities can wait for another day (transit advocates).

My dispatch from Day 1 on David Eby’s four day mid-election road trip.

ANALYSIS | Eby puts needs of car owners ahead of transit advocates in ruling out Metro Vancouver vehicle levy | CBC News
For the last 18 months, a vehicle levy has been talked about by TransLink as a potential way to create a more sustainable funding model, as revenue from fuel taxes continues to decline. But all that w...

Thinking about this a lot. How can they afford this, but not to fund our transit systems properly, or build the schools previously promised, so people don't need to drive as much? How much is this going to cost, where are the.cuts going to be made?
My plan cuts 10 cents a litre off the provincial gas tax and gives the BC Utilities Commission the power to stop big oil from gouging you at the pump, so up to 30 cents a litre ends up back in your pocket where it belongs.

That's up to $100 a month for a family with two cars.

For no reason at all, and certainly not due to what I'm hearing on @cbcstephenquinn.bsky.social right now.

Great to see this. Burke Mountain is a fast growing area, with a large existing population But currently lacks many foundations of a healthy community, such as transit, schools, a grocery store, and other retail. This fills a critical need in the community, allowing residents to stay local.
Today, the federal government announced an investment of up to $67.4 million in the Burke Mountain Community Centre project through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund.

From the article:

> If you start damming a river, the water's going to go somewhere and if you start blocking the roads, the cars have to go somewhere.

This is literally the point. These changes are controlling where they want traffic to go. People will learn the new flow, it's not an issue.

@sd43bc.bsky.social @lisabeare.bsky.social @cityofcoquitlam.bsky.social @bcgovernment.bsky.social @jodiewickens.bsky.social I've been hearing rumors for many months that the Burke Mountain middle/secondary school is now only secondary. I can't find any public info. What is going on?

If every municipality did similar, it would be worse for us all.

We are a dense, shared region. Our collective tax dollars go towards projects like the Shoreline Trail Boardwalk replacement.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
