Saudi Aramco canceled several September oil shipments to Europe after an attack damaged the East‑West pipeline, prompting reduced exports and keeping global prices above $100 a barrel.

This is a major escalation of the war. As yet unreported in most US corporate media. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis have attacked four cities in Saudi Arabia, wounding more than 70 people and setting oil installations ablaze in what appeared to be a significant expansion of the Middle East war.

I was wondering why Trump refused to defend Saudi pipelines. Now it makes sense. Cause an oil shortage just in time for elections. Keep people away from the polls.
For people thinking, what's the big deal about the 4% cut in global oil production coming next week, that's the scale of the 1973 OPEC crisis and 1979 Iran war oil crisis. Each followed by a major recession.

Prices and supply are global. And global oil stocks are already gone. It's a calamity. 1/

This is going to hurt and Trump will rightfully get the blame no matter how much he whines that it's not his fault

Saudi Arabia halts oil shipments out of Yanbu, a major Saudi port on the Red Sea.

If they can't get oil out via the Gulf (because Iran has blocked Hormuz) and they can't get oil out via the Red Sea, their economy—and by extension, domestic stability and international power—is in serious trouble.

Saudi Arabia could face the biggest threat to its existence ever. With oil exports shuttered and no money coming in, it will be forced to sell treasuries for liquidity which the US will oppose because it will cause yields to spike. Thus, they could be pushed into a balance of payments crisis.

There is a lot of uncertainty. I had done an estimate based on the IEA August oil report, but while speaking to @oovrebo.bsky.social @energiogklima.no the IEA September report dropped, changing from a 1.6mb/d to 2.5mb/d drop in oil. What happens next in the Middle East?
