To understand why Trump is hitting new lows, it is worth looking under the hood at his ratings on individual issues. Since April, he has absolutely tanked on the cost of living - an issue which, ironically, is directly due to his misadventures in the Middle East.

This is all true, but I think the future of US trade policy under a Democratic administration depends on (1) which Democrat we are talking about, (2) what is the makeup of Congress, and (3) what else is going on with US domestic and foreign policy at that time.

The theme of Trump’s second term is his using the power of the presidency as though it’s his own. That manifests in tantrums booting media outlets from the White House. More harmfully, it also manifests in blocking federal funding to states that didn’t vote for him.
