Not to mention a two year old law in Europe (or the what four year old dsa that oversees the worst at that time identified harms resulting from the neglect of the 10 year old gdpr, which already called for algorithmic transparency.) 1/2

This is exactly right.
I’m not yet convinced Anthropic trained on Dr Mestre’s prompts. Same with OpenAI and Navier-Stokes. That’s the story that everyone wants to push. I think the bigger story is AI companies stomping all over scientific norms and practices like clumsy toddlers.

Two risks with AI:
1: the system slips its guardrails (hack a grocery store to get you the current banana price)
2: a person with bad intentions uses it as a tool to do harm more efficiently.
