The United States announced new sanctions against the International Criminal Court hours after South African jurist Navi Pillay won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for supporting international justice. The measures seek to restrict the court’s operations and access to the global financial system, with threats of penalties for countries doing business with it. Washington urged allies to follow suit, while European governments and foreign ministers from eight states condemned the move; the administration accused the ICC of politicization and unfairly targeting Americans.
