# Electrification
Electrification *is* defence.
This would be economically illiterate & environmentally disastrous - and makes us less secure: undermining efforts to reduce energy bills by reducing dependence on gas, increasing vulnerability to global dictators, driving climate emissions & knee capping a market that’s just beginning to take off
Ministers preparing to slash heat pump subsidies to fund defence spending
Exclusive: Some of £2bn savings needed from energy budget expected to come from boiler upgrade scheme, sources say

Railroad electrification?
October 15, 2026 at 4:13 AM
Metra electrification now needs to become a top priority. Unlike bus electrification – where operationally speaking an electric bus operates a whole lot like a diesel bus – rail electrification with multiple-unit trains also provides a notable performance enhancement (better accel/deceleration).

rural electrification was still quite a big thing. you had entire counties still using gas lamps well into the 60s.

Friends dont let friends believe in hydrogen instead of electrification

Deplorable! We should be pushing ahead with electrification of home heating, not culling the incentives to increase uptake in electrification!

Well that’s a difficult one because the US was for a time quite ahead of the world in railroad electrification—at least if you count interurbans

The best way to do this is through faster electrification of transport, industrial processes and domestic heating. 3/6

leave climate change out of the equation entirely and strictly from the perspective of "not having to repeatedly dig up and burn your sole source of fuel," electrification is just better technology, but Trump and his allies are refusing it and denying it to others out of pure spite
boy Trump fucked the American auto industry. first he yanks their EV subsidies, leading them to slash production and write off tens of billions in investment, then he jacks up the price of oil by 50%, leading to skyrocketing EV demand going almost entirely to China bc GM et al left the market

100% tax on new vehicles that went into subsidizing public transit (ferries, buses) and electrification.

No better way to cap off Climate Week NYC than talking home electrification with @jayinslee.bsky.social, @rachelreports.bsky.social, and @samcalisch.bsky.social at The Nest Campus. The future of clean energy is bright — literally!

€1 billion of loans will be made possible by €100 million of energy efficiency certificates, a mechanism widely used in France for electrification support, where fossil energy suppliers are obliged to support a certain percentage of energy savings through electrification in transport and heating.

It's very recent and very unfortunate. GHWB was a big Amtrak booster and got the Northend electrification funded. (Just as one example).
