Ath’ kura lore.
Rushak is very grateful to Frasca, and he considers his blessing while he is riding her home from a difficult encounter.

From Brother’s Keeper, my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by a misunderstood power.
Frasca, like the other ath'kura, lived in the vast plainsland south and west of the Forest, and served her CHOSEN for her own reasons. It seemed rash, this irrevocable bond, the price of a pact made by her desert ancestors in the days when all horses had reason. He would never know why she had CHOSEN him, but this miracle was the one thought he could reach for when the pain compressed his soul to a pinprick and the void threatened to reclaim him. But Iryla had gifted the ath'kura; unlike other horses they would never be prey, nor would they be slaves. Rushak smiled to consider how the Rathyni horse breeders beyond ... somewhere believed them inferior because they lacked a rib, their faces were dished and they were untrainable. The frustrated Rathyni pronounced them stupid and stayed out of the Sheltrian plains, which was probably wise. Brother's Keeper A.C. Turek

dear constellation they say you are chosen stitched into the sky while the rest of us flicker nameless I think about love how some are gathered in to the bright pattern and some are left drifting how family is not always the one that raised us sometimes it is the one that remembers us well our own constellations unmapped, uneven, just a few small stars they are ours, still.

Returning to the main island, Antin could feel Nyx anger through their bond. “Why are you so angry?” I am not mad, Aludim, I’m frustrated. We know the Dreth are here, but in my ancestral memory it doesn’t align with this. I don’t remember Le’Than meeting us; so my grandfather's egg must have been laid or hatched already. But I don’t recall this time at all. Antin wondered about this until they landed next to the library building. “I’m sure we’ll find some clues if we search the library.” As they neared the front of the library he peered inside. Not noticing anyone there he wondered why the library was empty. In his local one there were always people there. His nose caught on something; a wonderful smell. His stomach growled, making it so he appeared to be some suffering thing. He quickly walked to the stall and was given a packet he ripped open to release more of that wonderful smell. It was a bread of some sort, flat, fried, topped with sauce and cheese – almost like a pizza. He bit into it and noticed Nyx staring at him “what?” I just find it amusing that you smelled the bread, then you swirled around and found the shop, and didn’t stop to breathe until you ripped into that loaded bread. Nyx laughed. It was funny to watch! Antin grumbled as he finished his snack. “Not all of us live off the Light you know…” noticing the doors to the library his breath caught. The intricate stonework was stunning; the stone forming a lace so lifelike he almost couldn’t believe it was stone. «This masonry is amazing» It’s not all that, Nyx said, we had discovered how to shape stone by this time – or some of our Aludim had developed strong talents in this field. “Still amazing! Now, let’s get to researching.” Antin finished his snack, which had been really good. He thought he had tried one on one of his rare holidays, in Canada, something called a beavertail. A fried piece of thin bread, topped with cinnamon-sugar if he recalled correctly. Entering the lib…

I Have Chosen

I choose peace.
I choose hope.
I choose reality.
I choose love.
I choose to be who I am.
I choose grace.
I choose gratitude.
I choose to nurture.
I choose to care.

So much I have let go.
And now, peace.

Hello again, writers!

Here is your #BlueSkyRelay #prompt for Aug 30:

#CHOSEN

Picked; the past tense of choose.

🔆🔆🔆

Imagine that you already chose what to write - what did you decide? 💡
CHOSEN Cambridge Dictionary defines chosen as a "past participle of choose", which they define as "to decide what you want from two or more things or possibilities." #BlueSkyRelay August 30, 2025 prompt hosted by fieny Sun Song from FluxOfMind.ca The background is a photo I took of Green water flowing over stones. The inage in the foreground of a square with a checkmark is a stock graphic from Canva.

#chosen from Near Traverse, Book One of the Lonely Ship Saga.

It's Marcus' first meeting with his new captain, and Lilith makes it very clear how she's intending to treat him.

Lilith’s rising eyebrow was teasing, and Marcus felt himself colouring at his cheeks. “I was expecting a little more… metal? What is this?” One slender finger prodded just below Marcus’ right eye. If he focussed, he could feel the dark pathway of circuitry beneath the skin, at once colder and hotter than the surrounding flesh. “That’s my, um, sensory focus nodule,” he explained, hating the way the technical jargon threatened to sink the alluring, intimate atmosphere his captain had created. “It gathers data from my senses and passes it up to my brain for detailed analysis. It’s, um, like a pair of glasses but for my whole body.” “Sensitive, is it?” Marcus stiffened as she ran her fingertip along his cheek. She was standing very close. “N-Not especially. It’s, um, sub-dermal.” “Of course.” Lilith chuckled. It was clear she was enjoying toying with him. Her eyes drew a line down his neck, along the straight shoulder of his jacket and down to his right arm. “If I were designing a body for myself, however, I might have chosen not to be quite so soft. Here, especially.” Her hand squeezed his upper arm tightly, while her other slid around to his stomach. “And here.” This time, Marcus needed a moment to compose himself before answering. His response was flustered and all too fast. “U-Uh, two things. One, there isn’t a stated need to possess significant musculature for what is in essence an administrative support role. A-And two, I don’t do all that much active stuff in the, um, the simulation so it was believed I might hurt myself if I was given an abundance of physical strength without having the wherewithal to make use of it safely.” Mercifully, she released him, throwing back her head with a musical laugh and running a hand through her bound, black hair. “You really need to calm down. I can’t have you getting all silly each time I need you to perform for me. I do hope you aren’t this way during the mission.”

A meme in 8 frames. On the right a man in a brown suit becomes increasingly more interested and excited in a series of four stacked photos. In the bottom photo there is a red haze and his eyes glow white while his mouth hangs wide open. On the left are four matched photos. The top is a dark haired man with a beard in crisp white shirt in front of a fireplace. Below that a woman with dark hard and eye make up looks up at the man while he reaches out to stroke her face. Below that the man lies in bed bedise another man with short hair, also in a while shirt The new man is asleep and the first man strokes his face. In the final frame the dark haired man and woman stand beside the bed as the other man sits up and looks at them.
