The obvious solution is to put RFK Jr. on a plane to Irkutsk and let him *do his own research.*
There is a suspected outbreak of the plague in Russia. Yes, you read that right. And we cannot trust RFK Jr. and the Trump administration to be prepared to deal with this. We need a Democratic public health doctor in the US Senate.

Administration is "aware, monitoring the outbreak, and assessing options," an official told Axios.

The Russia plague scare just took another turn.

WHO says the risk is moderate to low in Irkutsk and very low across Europe, while most people under observation have been released.

Yet the cause of the lab worker’s death remains unresolved.

Here’s what the latest update reveals.

The State Department did not say all Americans must leave to Russia due to the Irkutsk situation. They said they are monitoring that, and restated their boilerplate notice that Russia is already under a Travel 4 Advisory due to the war and Americans must leave. Not related to Irkutsk.

After digging a bit, I'm honestly a little jealous that they still have a publicly-funded agency that's working to combat infectious disease.

I'm wondering if, at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute of Siberia and the Far East, any of the servers and/or software-controlled machinery (e.g., protein synthesizers driven by digitized DNA sequences) could be (or have already been) attacked/infiltrated/zombified by rogue AI agents?

WHO is making clear in its own bureaucratic and meandering way that whatever happened in that biological weapons lab on the outskirts of Irkutsk, the Russian are quite intent on covering it up. And this means that being concerned is the right response.

Russian officials detect no plague among the close contacts of a Siberian anti-plague lab worker who recently died of mysterious pneumonia. Testing instead reveals isolated cases of Covid-19 and the common cold as the WHO and other health agencies continue monitoring the situation.

I did a job interview by phone from Irkutsk once. Spent four nights on a train from Moscow getting there which maybe wasn’t the best form of interview prep. Also got stopped in the street there by mormons who were very disappointed to discover that I wasn’t a local. (I did not die of the plague.)

Americans should be far more concerned about measles in their backyards than whatever is happening outside Irkutsk. Why they aren't is a more interesting story than Russia's maybe-plague, sadly.

Bangkok Post – ‘Nobody seems to care’: Russian city shrugs off plague reports
Russia has denied reports of an outbreak IRKUTSK (RUSSIA) - Reports of a plague laboratory worker's death in Siberia have caused waves of speculation outside Russia, but in the city where she worked, many appeared unfazed. The laboratory worker's death was first reported on Friday. Several Russian media outlets reported she had died from pneumonic plague, a highly contagious form of the deadly disease, and that dozens of people had been quarantined.
