#287(g)Program
This new rundown of the absurd 287(g) money flowing through Texas law enforcement agencies is quite the follow up to @propublica.org's piece on the Ingram PD published Sunday.

"In Pantego alone, a town of 2,500 (...), federal 287(g) grants could bring in $820,000 in the first year..."

FYI: I've been working on the readme for the 287(g) program report repo to make it easier to navigate.

Hoping to make this Github version of the project more useful for users who want to share a packaged version of the report, or need the data for technical or formal citation purposes.

The Small-Town Cop Who Helped ICE Deport His Neighbors
Ingram, Texas, was just rebuilding from a devastating flood when its tiny police department enrolled in ICE’s 287(g) deportation program. Within a year, cops would hand over the equivalent of 10% of the town.

THREAD. Every single time you see Democrats, Jacobin Magazine, Malcolm Gladwell, or a non-profit organization telling you to support existing levels of policing and police budgets, understand this is what they want you to support:

Alexander: “I know the status of everybody in this room.” He went on to tell the reporter that everyone working there was undocumented… “And today, at least, he was just there for breakfast.” Sociopathic behavior in a uniform is a legal pass to terrorize.

Officer Jaron Alexander sees his relationships with residents as evidence of his humanity, despite what people say about him.

“I’ve deported like six of their family members,” he said about one family, “and they’re still friendly to me.”

Unless we get a late afternoon update from ICE today, we'll end October with 127 new 287(g) agreements signed.

That's significantly less than we saw during the recent spike from June to September, when signups hovered between 191 and 206 per month. May was the last month w/ fewer (126).

365 days later, we're up to 2,725 active 287(g) agreements. 512 added in the past *90 days*.

The deportation force is still actively mobilizing, in other words.

We knew that in September 2025, ICE announced new incentives for the 287(g) police partnership program, including a $100K vehicle stipend, quarterly performance bonuses + overtime pay for officers.

Ingram opted in. That meant its cops would serve as deputy immigration agents.

This now includes a subfolder with 20+ newsletter articles I've written about the 287(g) program and our broken immigration system.

Aside from an effort to move off substack for publishing, redundancy is good!
That includes a new /resources folder, starting with a list of important resources like this ⤵️, research + policy analysis, fact sheets, etc. Stay tuned for more here soon.

Just in case y'all didn't know, those ICE surges were 100% to make people afraid with the coverage and show Trump attacking blue states/cities.

In red states, they pay the local pigs to be their gestapo.
