3iQ and Figment to launch North America’s first Solana staking ETF
3iQ Corp. has tapped Figment as the primary staking provider for its new Solana Staking ETF (TSX: SOLQ), which officially launches on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Wednesday at 9:30 AM EST. The announcement represents the first product of its kind in North America to incorporate native Solana (SOL) staking rewards into an exchange-traded format. SOLQ gives investors regulated, exchange-traded access to Solana’s native staking yield, traditionally reserved for crypto-native users who either run validator nodes or delegate tokens to existing validators, without the complexity of self-custody or direct protocol interaction.

In addition to 3iQ, Figment provides staking infrastructure solutions to more than 700 clients.  The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), a provincial regulator, green-lighted 3iQ’s SOL fund on April 14. The approval was also extended to other fund managers seeking to offer SOL ETFs, including Purpose, Evolve and CI. As Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas reported at the time, the funds are permitted to stake a portion of their SOL holdings through TD Bank, Canada’s second-largest financial institution by assets.  Source: Eric Balchunas 3iQ estimates that its SOL fund will provide yields of between 6% and 8%, according to its website.  Related: Solana, XRP ETFs may attract billions in new investment — JPMorgan 3iQ leads Canadian crypto ETFs as US regulators drag their feet As US regulators continue to consider various crypto-related fund offerings, Canada has been leading the curve in adoption going back to 2021. That was the year that 3iQ debuted its spot Bitcoin (BTC) ETF, which crossed $1 billion in net assets almost immediately.  It would take nearly three more years before spot Bitcoin ETFs were approved in the United States. Like their Canadian counterparts, the US ETFs saw overwhelming success in their first year, generating more than $38 billion in net inflows. In October 2023, 3iQ launched an ETF tied to Ether (ETH), giving investors direct access to the smart contract platform. Unlike the Ether ETFs that US regulators approved the following year, 3iQ’s fund offers staking rewards.  As Cointelegraph recently reported, US regulators may be on the cusp of approving staking rewards after they authorized exchanges to list options contracts tied to ETH. 3iQ’s Canadian Solana ETF selects Figment as staking provider
Figment will provide staking services for 3iQ's new Solana ETF, SOLQ, launching on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The ETF, approved by the Ontario Securities Commission, allows institutional staking of Solana (SOL). Figment already serves over 700 clients with its staking infrastructure. 3iQ projects a 6% to 8% yield for SOLQ investors. Canada's proactive approach contrasts with slower US regulatory progress on crypto ETFs. 3iQ launched Canada's first Bitcoin ETF in 2021, achieving over $1 billion in assets quickly. US spot Bitcoin ETFs followed years later, experiencing significant success. 3iQ also offers an Ether ETF with staking rewards, unlike some US counterparts. The US regulatory landscape might be shifting toward allowing staking rewards in ETFs. This development highlights Canada's leadership in the digital asset ETF market.

Spot Solana ETFs to launch in Canada this week
Canadian regulators have approved the launch of Solana (SOL) spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Purpose, Evolve, CI, and 3iQ are the asset managers authorized to issue these ETFs. The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) oversees these listings, aligning with updated rules for crypto-holding funds. These ETFs will allow for staking a portion of SOL holdings to increase yield. This marks the first altcoin ETF approval, contrasting with the US's slower approach. The US SEC has received numerous altcoin ETF applications but only approved Bitcoin and Ether spot ETFs, with staking remaining prohibited. While there's market excitement, demand for altcoin ETFs might be lower than for Bitcoin or Ether funds. A US-based Solana futures ETF has shown limited success, attracting only around $5 million in assets. Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas cautions against interpreting this as a definitive indicator of spot SOL ETF performance. The Canadian market provides a unique testing ground for altcoin ETFs before broader US adoption.

Inside the new TSX Solana staking ETF (SOLQ)
The investment universe for non-crypto native investors has largely revolved around Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. But that’s changing fast with the introduction of a new Solana product on the Toronto Stock Exchange. As a Canadian working in crypto space, this announcementcaught my attention. The collaboration between 3iQ Corp. and Figment to bring a Solana (SOL) staking ETF to the Toronto Stock Exchange marks an interesting step in giving mainstream investors (i.e my parents) straightforward, easy, and convenient access to one of the more closely followed proof-of-stake blockchains in the ecosystem.
