I am wondering what the Chinese are thinking seeing the US and Israel systematically dismantle Iranian air defenses over the past year using stealth fighters and stand-off munitions, particularly about the survivability of their Mainland-based A2AD (Anti-Access/Area Denial) assets.

the thing about ngad is you're going to need *something* like this, manned or unmanned, just given the nature of the pacific fight: an air-sea war fought at extreme ranges against one of the world's densest a2ad networks

I think the biggest issue for A2AD to work is getting targeting, C2 and precision right as wells as having an competent air force. A2AD feels far too often being focused on SAMs, AShMs and G2G missiles...

Why do I mention the bastion-aspect? Because similarly to what I consider an unwarranted obsession by Western observers with A2AD I do not think a bastion-type strategic posture represents some sort of desired end state, and even its persistent application right now is debatable.
