I see ex Indepedent/Sunday Times journalist Tom Harper is behind this ACPO private investigator unit. I had major brushes with him during the phone hacking scandal/Daniel Morgan murder, as he was always weaponising information to help Murdoch
I was working with @direthoughts.com when he broke the first stories about Labour Together's funding way back in 2021.
Now it turns out they were paying private investigators to investigate him for reporting on them and Morgan McSweeney knew about it

When I was at ACPO a priest bragged about disappearing all the BCPs out of every parish he'd served at because "lay people simply can't understand what propitiation means."
The interesting thing about that declaration is that presumably one of the things a priest can do in that situation is teach.

Some years ago ACPO played a useful role in coordinating police forces on FOI. As a journalist I found ACPO generally helpful & willing to engage constructively with requesters. But since ACPO became the NPCC, the overall FOI performance of police forces has got much worse and is often dreadful.

Would seem so but how is that kind of thing enforced? Could argue that “somebody” (Home Office? ACPO?) should have produced a policy response but hey that would only happen if their interests were threatened :(

Remember - the 'College of Policing' does most of the stuff that ACPO used to do. Don't be fooled by the bland name.

Remember - the 'College of Policing' does most of the stuff that ACPO used to do. Don't be fooled by the bland name.
The rule of thumb I worked with when having to regularly liaise directly with Scotland Yard or when sitting on an ACPO working groups was the more political dimensions any crime had, the more likely I was to meet fuckery as opposed to institutional bias and casual failure of empathy.

the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) pretty much use 10% +2 mph across every county in the UK when asked in FOI requests. Speed cameras are produced by private companies who don't confirm it. I've noticed Kia/Hyundais are about 10% under on their speedos vs GPS also.
