His direction in AFGM is borderline immaculate. A ridiculously talented cast and an all-timer script, to be sure, but every shot is framed perfectly. Every musical cue is timed perfectly. You can see his hand just subtly making everything… just so. Craftsman.

That's another movie, a kind of post-WW2 A Few Good Men involving individual moral choices and belief in institutions, but better than AFGM. I would watch the hell out of that.

The Reiners had such an impact on my childhood. From reruns of the Dick Van Dyke Show on Nic-at-Nite to The Princes Bride, AFGM, to The American President they made my childhood and teenage years enjoyable. I can look back with a smile on my face because of those gentlemen.
