Danish, Dutch, Italian and Swedish speakers miss out too, though Apple Intelligence runs in all five. A public release follows later this year. Who qualifies?

World Medical Association introduces global policy to combat health misinformation
The World Medical Association (WMA), representing physicians worldwide, has adopted its first-ever policy specifically targeting the spread of false health information. The policy, developed in collaboration with Canada's Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and France's Conseil national de l'Ordre des Médecins, was approved by global delegates at the WMA's annual general assembly in the Netherlands. The policy addresses the growing challenge of health misinformation, particularly amplified by social media and AI-generated content, which undermines public trust in medical professionals and health systems. Key recommendations include medical associations creating awareness campaigns about misinformation risks, governments implementing regulatory measures to prevent profiteering from disinformation, and licensing boards taking disciplinary action against health professionals spreading inaccurate information. The policy also urges medical authorities to work with social media companies to establish rapid reporting mechanisms for removing harmful content and to require clear labeling of AI-generated health information. A recent CMA survey revealed that 97% of 645 surveyed Canadian physicians had to intervene after patients accessed false health information online, with 27% of Canadians trusting AI for health advice—a practice linked to five times higher risk of harm compared to those who did not follow AI advice. The policy distinguishes between legitimate scientific debate and false information, emphasizing that medical knowledge advances through evidence-based testing of hypotheses. It also highlights that marginalized communities, who often have limited access to healthcare, are disproportionately affected by health misinformation. The WMA policy, while not legally binding, sets ethical standards for physicians globally and calls for coordinated international action to address the issue. The policy was developed following concerns about the impact of misleading health content on patient outcomes, including misdiagnosis and adverse effects from following incorrect treatments. Dr. Alika Lafontaine, representing Canada on the WMA Council, emphasized that the policy marks the beginning of necessary action, stating, 'There’s a real responsibility for everyone to step up and confront this when it has very real consequences on peoples’ livelihoods and their long-term health.'
