I've been mostly offline today and I saw Erik Von Daniken died. He was a virulent racist and bigot and a convicted felon, and his alien archaeology "theories"
did incalculable harm to the field of archaeology. Those are his legacies.

Orbital archaeology! 🏺 🧪
On this day in 1962, Alouette 1 was launched. It was the first Canadian satellite, and the first satellite not constructed by the USA or Soviet Union. Launched to investigate the ionosphere, the mission lasted for 10 years but the satellite will remain in orbit for 1000 years.

A common myth claims Indigenous American civilizations “did not invent the wheel.”

Archaeology says otherwise.

Without large draft animals for traction, wheeled transport had limited practical use. Different technological paths do not imply inferiority.
