Disabled people are losing up to 85% of their Access to Work grants, even when their circumstances haven't changed. Here's why.

Government cuts 85 per cent of grants for disabled people on Access to Work scheme
How has the government been able to remove almost all grant money that disabled people need to stay in work, without changing the law?

any #journalists working in the #adhd space fancy doing an investigation into why #ADHDcoaching can cost above £120 per session, when #counselling would cost on average £55 ...? Wondering if it might have something to do with funding often coming from #accesstowork ?

It warms our professional lipspeaking hearts to read such positive comments about the difference our skill can make in a person’s life. Well done to that lipspeaker, what a wonderful reminder of the impact our skills can have. @RNID #AccessToWork rnid.org.uk/information-...

You can't make this up.
Just called #AccessToWork . It's exhausting. I ended up saying,
"So you don't have my report, which you say is unusual after 3 weeks & you are going to ask my case manager, who is on annual leave with an unknown return date, whose email isn't monitored, to contact me? (1/3)

You might have seen our talented friend Annalisa Dinnella's piece on #AccessToWork in the Guardian this week, a shortened version of a longer article - we're delighted to publish the full piece here: www.touretteshero.com/2026/08/17/i...
Is This Thing Working? ‘Access To Work’ and My Labyrinth of Doom  - Touretteshero
Last year I wrote extensively about the sudden cut to my Access to Work support that meant I had to stop doing the job I love for three months. While my support was eventually reinstated, many other w...

I’m in the middle of this myself, have had my support cut from 29 hours a week to ten, appealed (mandatory reconsideration) with the support of CAB and my MP, but to no avail. On the way to the Law Centre to see if they can help.

🧵 #AccessToWork strikes again an hour before an arranged call I get an email stating my case has been reallocated and telling me the deadline to submit paperwork I've already sent. No mention of the appointment today. I can't email back as they removed that as a method of contact. 1/4

In April I submitted an FOI request to DWP asking how disabled people can access forms and communication by email.

They missed the deadline. Then ignored the internal review request.

It’s now with the ICO.

Access to Work have refused my reconsideration, again by post, despite requesting email. I sent medical evidence. I work for a DPO. Their own assessor backed support. Still refused. This scheme is failing disabled people. I’m exhausted. And I know I’m not the only one. #AccessToWork #AtW

If Access to Work is cut, small charities lose staff. Communities lose vital services.

📊 26% of charity workers are disabled
💸 34% of small charities have no reserves
🌍 £20bn+ social value at risk

It’s not saving — it’s sacrifice.

The very thing the government claims to want — pushing more disabled people into employment — is undermined by their own actions.

18 weeks waiting for an Access to Work reconsideration. I also submitted a complaint about delays and poor communication—exhausted in Jan and escalated to ICE in Feb. Still no update. These delays are putting my job at risk. Ombudsman next.

The proposed changes to #PIP and #AccessToWork won’t "get more disabled people into work."

They’ll do the opposite — and cause a cascade of problems across public services and society.

Here’s what that really leads to:
April 9, 2025 at 8:54 PM
some people can’t work, and they deserve financial support that protects their independence and dignity.

#PIP is a broken system. It’s stressful, unfair, and 69% of appeals are successful at tribunal. That tells you everything.

#AccessToWork is no better.
April 9, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Read&Write software was approved, but DWP still haven’t paid the proforma invoice sent 2 Feb 2025.

Complaint escalated to ICE on 3 Feb 2025, 9 weeks later, no reply. Just told it’ll be “some time.”

People are waiting months for essential tools to work.

123 days since I submitted my #AccessToWork reconsideration.

Applied: 26 Apr 2024

Assessed: 20 Nov 2024

Reconsideration sent: 7 Dec 2024

Still waiting. No updates.

#DWP delays are leaving disabled workers without the tools we need.

If the government really wants to close the disability employment gap, they must fix Access to Work first.

Pushing disabled people into work without proper support just sets them up to fail. AtW should empower people, not create more barriers. 5/5

for anyone wanting to add their experience w/ #AccessToWork to a national campaign: graeae.org/resource/acc.... original event has passed but the survey is continuing and i'd expect more to come.

it's long overdue time that #DWP steppedTF up and stopped making it demonstrably harder for us to work!
