#ActiveTravel/public
We need to be far more aspirational about public and active transport in rural areas.
Accepting that “there are just no buses” is not a serious or fair position for government to take.

Agreed. We should be pushing for accelerated #Decarbonisation in the name of energy security and reducing our dependence on often unsavoury petrostates.

This includes better public transport and #ActiveTravel infrastructure.

First ever time using a public bike pump - worked beautifully and just saved me a lot of annoyingly squishy riding around London today.

Thanks East Mids Rail Derby Station

Also oops, should have checked tyres before leaving home!

All the evidence is that #ActiveTravel interventions, whether #SchoolStreets, safe infrastructure or #LowTrafficNeighbourhoods have significant public health benefits.

But so often they seem to be siloed as a “Highways” measure @triciaayr.bsky.social
I can only talk anecdotally, but having a a commute that could be walked or cycled made a huge difference to my physical and mental health.

Local authorities *must* involve their public health teams when making transport decisions.

Citizens once again demonstrating that they want Active Travel, pedestrianised city centres and public transport over the private car. Politicians take note please…. The “noise” does not represent the majority #activetravel #carlightcities #healthycities

Your occasional reminder that shopkeepers overestimate the proportion of their customers that come by car. #ActiveTravel
“Politically correct” cycle lane plans would put “economic vitality” of town at “serious risk”, warns Labour MP – due to loss of six car parking spaces
According to the MP, building the bike lane would cause "serious challenges" for local businesses, “erode public trust, and squander valuable public funds

Bus stop bypasses (floating bus stops) are being discussed
Well designed bus stop bypasses are the best option in some places for pan-impairment #ActiveTravel and public transport #accessibility. Here's why:

Just listening to @carolinerussell.bsky.social saying that the elephant in the room is traffic reduction. Totally agree! We need the Mayor and boroughs to do more to help people shift away from cars - better public transport, more safe cycling and walking infrastructure. #AirPollution #ActiveTravel

3+ years #carfree for me too 🚶🏻‍♀️🚲🚌🚖

Walk, ride, public transport, and the occasional car share (Co-Wheels) or taxi when needed. Honestly? It’s nowhere near as hard as we thought it would be

Still saving money, still getting places, still feeling good.

Whilst we have these big announcements that sound like vast amounts of money, I hope we end up with actual infrastructure, not temporary crap that the general public has to try and fix on a daily basis.

This is why urban areas need a combination of a #CleanAirZone to get rid of the worst polluting vehicles, and a #CongestionCharge to reduce the total, and generate money to pay for public transport and #ActiveTravel alternatives.

Do our politicians have the will and leadership to act?

The decision to expand the Bee Network branding to include public transport was the point at which GM’s #ActiveTravel ambitions collapsed. We’ve <10% of the planned network 8 years into the 10y plan.

Labour is right about LTNs – the Tories need to learn the same lesson

#ActiveTravel is a public health intervention as much as anything else, and our political leaders must make the case for this - reduced illness, and reduced demand for social care.
At a big active travel conference in York, Chris Whitty is explaining how amazing physical activity is for health, and how it needs to be built into everyday life. Those who benefit most are those who currently do nothing, followed by those who do little, he says.
