That is happening - the FASP / fedidiscovery servers Mastodon got a grant to develop are very analogous to ATProto relays. Elsehere in fedi, ActivityPods (AP on Solid pods) is analogous to PDSs. But, I don't think any of this really changes the overall dynamic Dan's talking about.

There's more interested growing in C2S though, with an "ActivityPub API" being talked about, along with calls for an OAuth taskforce for it.

遅まきながらActivityPodsなるものの存在を知った。ちょっとatprotoっぽさを感じるところもある。本質はやっぱり異なるものなので統合とかは無理だろうけれど。

ActivityPods is a modular framework that combines ActivityPub + Solid protocols. PODs are similar to PDS but they have ACLs & Solid-OIDC thus users have control over what apps access & what they can access. It uses a singular decentralised identity, WebID

Sadly I dont have good updates on those feps being implemented to share, it was kind of a directional FEP (happy to make changes if the first 3 implementers agree on any) and we are still waiting for those 🫣. activitypods will have equivalent portability but only between rdf and/or nextgraph PDSs.

In the long term, #atprotocol seems to be the better concept, even if #Bluesky's business model is not yet clear (so we'll talk again in a year's time).

I've heard of ActivityPods and think it is pretty interesting!
I'm not sure what you mean by "use it for your DID auth" though. Does ActivityPods use DIDs natively? reconciling DID-based identity with user-at-domain identity is a big friction for AT/AP interop
