Hearing of layoffs at Adweek, my old home. Allegedly up to 25% of the newsroom.

Unlike other outlets that lay off folks, no memo went out.

Adweek is owned by Shamrock Capital, a PE firm that bought Taylor Swift's originals for $360 million from Scooter Braun.

Shamrock bought Adweek in 2020.

And now he's being forced to slash the staff -- again -- because of plummeting subscriptions and advertisers turned off by everything (per Adweek story). So sad. This didn't have to happen this way.
When this billionaire bought the Los Angeles Times, he seemed heroic. He invested in staff & pushed progressive ideals.

Then, in 2024, he got MAGA-pilled.

@marielgarza.bsky.social, watched it unfold from the inside — and quit the LAT in protest. Here's our talk:

There's literally no evidence whatsoever that advertisers are increasing their spend on ExTwitter in response to a Trump win, and that's not remotely what the report in AdWeek says - and yet this idea is spreading like wildfire among both gloating Musk fans AND gloating Musk critics.
