Agnosia

Agnosia is when the brain can’t connect familiar “things” to knows details about those things.

Agnosia is the broad concept but there are subtypes.

For example, Prosopagnosia literally translates to “Face Agnosia”

This lack of awareness is my very favorite agnosia, anosognosia: the inability to perceive that you have become disabled.

A list of Agnosias, the physical ability to sense or have information, but cognitive inability to process or integrate it.

Stuff like face blindness is known, but you can be unable to recognize fingers, or textures, or the position of your body or copy shapes, etc.

Driving in Pittsburgh is not for the weak nor those with topographical agnosia. Only the strong survive.

To make it easier to share teaching resources, I'd like to start by asking what your favorite cog psych videos are.

Let me start: I love showing this visual agnosia video in class. Kevin is articulate about his recognition problems.

What's your favorite? I'll compile your responses & share them.

My two vessels are names apostle and agnosia.
Im working on a design for the weird route vessel i have no idea what to name it lolol. I think it acts more like a phantom that appears to kris as horrible things continue to happen where selvet is like a guiding guardian angel that acts a bit silly at times.

Btw … the name Prosopagnosia is

Prosop (person / face) - Agnosia

Where Agnosia is a neurological impairment in recognizing familiar subjects.

So “Prosop” is conveying the specific type of Agnosia experienced.

A POV-shot movie about a brutal hammer killer with motion agnosia would be dope if you could pull it off.
What was your takeaway from Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, when you watched it at a kid?

Most brains when observing misordeiented text are quick to dismiss the text as not relevant … and stop trying to recognize it experiences a subtle form of agnosia … some ND brains will continue to spend resources until they get past the “agnosia” and recognize the letters/words, etc …

This is an excellent example of a temporary state of Agnosia (being unable to recall details about familiar things due to “brain stuff”)
I get this with migraine flares sometimes. I can't find objects like keys, not because they're not right in front of me, but because I can't connect the idea of keys to the object right in front of me. Thanks for the language!

Please don't ask autistics to "use their words"—as many autistic people think in images, not words, and so cannot possibly do what you are asking. Or they have processing issues. Or agnosia. Or apraxia. Or situational mutism. Or alexithymia. Or are overwhelmed. #autism #neurodiversity 12/

Back to Agnosia though … it’s an incredibly broad concept because the way the brain organizes perception and data is profoundly complex.

Environmental agnosia for example is the inability to map out relative physical locations despite familiarity with the spaces and areas.

8) Face "Blindness," or Prosopagnosia, meaning not recognizing people by faces. (Agnosia in general can be an autistic thing—difficulty differentiating between shapes, smells, buildings, cats.) You can help your autistic person by pointing out traits that are not faces, like hair/glasses combos. 9/
