Told myself “no more bonsais.” Then I woke up surrounded by 12 new pots, branch cutters and a shipment of akadama. Started with one, now I’m a tiny-tree landlord with 57 needy tenants. I’m not obsessed. I just rearrange my life around tiny leaves and growth charts.

Told myself “no more bonsais.” Then I woke up surrounded by 12 new pots, branch cutters and a shipment of akadama. Started with one, now I’m a tiny-tree landlord with 57 needy tenants. I’m not obsessed. I just rearrange my life around tiny leaves and growth charts.

Yes I tried - unsuccessful. I couldn't create a perfectly round ball. But Japanese soil Akadama was helpful when I create bonsai water fountain on a fieldstone moss rock. Will repost video soon(aspect ratio width issue). Akadama insulates the tree root. @bonsais.bsky.social @bonsaizen.bsky.social

Haworthia in fast draining akadama soil. Keep in mind everyone situation is different; winter can be extremely dry indoors and you may have to water more often! I know I do, which was hard for me to learn bc I was committed to under watering for years :’D

Es para airear más las raíces (teoría bonsaísta para el crecimiento).El sustrato es akadama y kiryuzuna 70-30 de grano medio, asi que no se cuela. En verano regamos a diario, pero no se seca mucho porque la akadama retiene bien la humedad, pero te libras de encharcamientos si te pasas regando.

make my own - Akadama is expensive in NZ and quality of impoted akadama is hard to judge until you open it up and use it Bonsai premixes are expensive to me too. My mixes are mostly pumice approx 70-80% then some Zeolite(Clay cat litter) and regular potting mix/compost.

#Lophophora koehresii showing off today. No #flower buds in sight for quite awhile and then bam! Planted habitatstyle and overpotted to let these two grow up together. Been in my care for over a year now. Topdressing is crushed akadama /w dragonstone.

My sentiments on sediments is that I favor them world weary:
Volcaniclastic ejecta, washed into valleys and left to rot in a high water table for 60,000 years.
Also known as Akadama or “Red Ball Earth” and Kanuma. A consolidated granular sediment entirely converted to clay… with relict texture.

この中山道の静かな元宿場町にあるこのお店では現在も薬局として営業されていて、江戸時代に販売していた腹痛薬を今も購入することが出来るのだけれど、国際芸術祭BIWAKOビエンナーレ2022が開催された際に現地で購入してみたら手放せなくなり、今回Amazonで追加購入。重宝しています。
