Here is a wild piece of Canadian trivia: none of the islands inside James Bay or Hudson Bay belong to Ontario or Quebec. 😮

Every single island, even Akimiski Island, which sits just a few kilometres off Ontario's coast, is politically part of the territory of Nunavut.🤔

Akimiski Island, Nunavut, Canada. I don't know if it's actually haunted, but I think at the right time of year I'd feel that, there.

#HorrorWritersChat question 3:

If you could spend a night in a real haunted place and stay up all night writing a story based there, where would it be?

P.S. Don’t forget the tag!

Compound #eye opener for #TrilobiteTuesday! Nice examples of the #holochroal eye condition in 2 diff #trilobite groups. 100's of tiny calcitic lenses packed together & sharing (in life) a continuous calcite corneal cover. Meroperix (L) - a styginid & Chiozoon (R) - a cheirurid. #Silurian (~430 MYA)

Coming in late for #FossilFriday with a lovely little early #Silurian (~436 MYA) spirifirid #brachiopod, Meristina obtusa. Interior view of dorsal valve showing preserved spiralia on left & partial drusy quartz cement infill. Width of valve = 24 mm. Attawapiskat Fm, #Akimiski Is, #Nunavut 🇨🇦

I looked up Akimiski Island, a piece of land 80% of the size of Rhode Island, on iNaturalist.

It has maybe 20 observations, mostly by three guys

I'm using #InternationalPolarBearDay as temporary relief from all the rest of the shit going down. Here's some random stuff from fieldwork around #Churchill, MB, Akimiski Is, NU, and Canada Post 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

I was nearly pulled from my deployment last summer due to major concern about heat injury. I was required to turn my camera on with a daily call with my boss so that they could assess how flushed I was.

I was here. I am not joking. I wish I was.

That's amazing! I love it up here, I'm on the James Bay in Northeastern Ontario, pretty much straddling the Treaty 9 region of Ontario/Qikiqtaaluk Region of NVT, on the arctic/subarctic line. The plan this summer is rafting to Akimiski Island via giant floating dinosaur. Mostly because I work

...because they're really aggressive. The size of a polar bear and the prickliness of a grizzly is not something to fool around with.

It's only happened twice, but that was two times too many.

I'm here, for reference 🧡

Loving this site that shows your name in landmarks. Thanks, NASA!! Hovering also tells you the location of each site. The D and O in Fawndolyn are stunning! All of it's stunning! I wish they had more Ns.

...animals on the premises that you weren't using?"

They're rare up here on the James Bay Coast, but back home I don't wake up one single morning without fresh coyote prints in my yard. And I live in a small city, not rural.

Both places are in Ontario. Home near the MI border and work near here:

My last #Strataday featured exhumed 3D #Silurian (~435 MYA) Attawapiskat Fm reefs in n. #Ontario - this week we see the same unit in very different context. On Akimiski Is. in #HudsonBay the reef structures have been glacially scoured leaving only remnants - but incredibly #fossiliferous! #Nunavut 🇨🇦
