4. Closure of Albert Bridge: Question raised by Cllr C Davies to the Cabinet Member for Transport: The closure of Albert Bridge by Kensington & Chelsea for safety reasons has exasperated traffic in my and other wards. Can the Cabinet member describe the work we are doing to tackle traffic in the area, and to hold both K&C and TFL to account? Answer: Officers have been in regular communication with their counterparts at TfL and RBK&C to both review and support the measures to aid the reopening of the bridge as well as to work on solutions to the temporary traffic disruption in the area. In the coming weeks, TfL will be introducing a series of changes to traffic signal timings at key junctions in the Battersea area which will include: 1. Adjustments to lights at Battersea Bridge Road and Westbridge Road. 2. Adjustments to lights at Albert Bridge Road and Prince of Wales Drive. 3. Adjustments to lights at Battersea Bridge Road and Battersea Park Road. 4. Automatic adjustment to lights in real time to ease congestion when queuing is detected for southbound traffic on Queenstown Road. 5. Adjustments to lights on the Cheyne Walk end of Battersea Bridge. There will be a few weeks of monitoring and testing by TfL before all the changes are fully operational. 7. Walking and cycling improvement works: Question raised by Cllr Hopkins to the Cabinet Member for Transport (PC/MF): In the Putney High Street works, how will the cabinet member protect the improvements for people walking and cycling which have led to improved road safety and more people using the crossings to access local businesses and the riverside? Answer: The current phase of works to the area are not expected to have any significant impact on the delivered pedestrian and cycle improvements, because we have retained the kerbed cycle lane and cycle gate on Putney High Street. A decision was made to reinstate two traffic lanes on Putney Bridge Road towards Putney High Street to help ease traffic congestion, and a decision was also made to reinstate the cyclist left turn from Putney Bridge Road onto Putney High Street to improve cyclists’ access. As with all Council schemes, officers will seek to strike the appropriate balance between all users.

Albert Bridge Repairs - £1m slippage to future years 17.29 The Albert Bridge Repairs scheme was added to the capital programme following the closure of the bridge to motor vehicles. The project remains in the early stages of design and development, and the current forecast includes expenditure of £7m in 2026/27, aligning to the value of a funding bid being submitted to the Structures Fund. £1m has been reprofiled into 2027/28 to reflect the latest expected programme of works.

#RBKC whines the Albert Bridge closure has reduced its driving fine PCN income by £250k/month ... so is setting up more cameras to fine drivers elsewhere!

And the council has budgetted up to £8m this year for repairs to Albert Bridge.

17.15 The Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) income budget is forecast to overachieve by £0.600m. PCN income remains volatile and will be monitored closely throughout the year. Whilst the early months of the year saw increased PCN issuance, activity levels have subsequently moderated. CCTV Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) income continues to be impacted by the closure of Albert Bridge, reducing income by approximately £250k per month. The effect has been partially mitigated through the expansion of the Council's CCTV enforcement network. This includes income generated from CCTV enforcement sites implemented during 2025/26, together with projections for a further three sites expected to become operational before the end of the financial year. Additional locations are also being assessed and may impact future forecasts. Overall, the current forecast assumes a 25% reduction in CCTV PCN issuance compared with the previous financial year. Tonight will be the Somme Commemoration march that takes place each year in East Belfast (and elsewhere). It's the 110th anniversary of the battle.

I'll be doing my usual photo coverage of the Albertbridge Road stretch of the East Belfast march and to see what form The Wall takes this year.
