Yesterday was our first day of school. In #Alg2 #Algebra2, I put the kids into groups of 3 and asked, if we all shook hands with everyone in the room, how many handshakes would that be?

I LOVE this problem, esp. on Day 1.

Got suspended for walking out of a mandatory study hall with my algebra2 teacher to make up classwork for my German class, who still refused to let me go there after telling him I needed to go to that class to get the work, before she left for the day(which was before the study hall period ended).

In #MathsToday we did an old fashioned card sort. Arranged the polynomials by end behavior, then matched up the equations to the graphs. After, I gave them some equations and they had to sketch the graph on the whiteboards, paying attention to end behavior and x-intercepts.

One group of 2 cards that have the end behavior of negative, even degree polynomials. One group of 2 cards with end behavior of positive, odd degree polynomials. And the fourth group has one card with end behavior of a negative, odd degree polynomials. The 8 graphs in the previous image have been arranged by increasing degree, then matched with an equation. The equations range from degree 2 to degree 6. Some equations are factored, some in standard form.

Got my ropes ready for a system of equations task next week. Now I can enjoy my long weekend. #iTeachMath #MTBoS. #Algebra2
There are roughly 40 lengths of cord with their ends melted. Half are 1/4 inch thick and fluorescent yellow. The other half are 3/16 inch thick and colored white with grey stripe. In the photo is the lighter which melted the ends to keep them from fraying.

College algebra is also kicking my ass and I'm trying to go back and learn the parts of algebra2 I missed the first time to prepare me for Statistics and possibly Calculus!! I think brute forcing your way through basic algebra may be the problem, math gets harder if you don't have a good foundation!

Every year, #Algebra2 Ss learn to determine if a relation is a function.
Function sends every input to exactly 1 output, but that output doesn't have to be unique.
^^ can be confusing.
Tried new analogy today, working w/student who is a rower on the crew team.
