For me it's more to do with terrain than size. Is it covered with grass or trees all the way up, or does it get rockyl difficult to climb?

dragon's dogma 2 and queen's domain have cemented my conviction in this weird engine idea i had recently, based on the displacement mapped raycaster i made.
the idea is base geometry (could be terrain primitive + freeform, or all freeform meshes) at manageable detail + dynamic LOD + displacement.

If anyone is in Kent or willing to drive and pick up, I've got these 3 boxes. Most of the warbands are gone and painted but ALL the terrain in still in the boxes and on sprue. You could fill a 4x6 table and then some with this lot.
£120 if you come and get them!!

Wired up a visualizer for the influence map to see why the bot was playing so flat.
Turns out the AI was reading parts of the terrain through the player's fog-of-war filter, so it had zero clear read on the board.
