🆕 Announcing Amazon FSx Intelligent-Tiering, a new storage class for FSx

#AWS #AmazonFsxForOpenzfs
Announcing Amazon FSx Intelligent-Tiering, a new storage class for FSx
Today, AWS announces the general availability of Amazon FSx Intelligent-Tiering, a new storage class for Amazon FSx that costs up to 85% less than the FSx SSD storage class and up to 20% less than traditional HDD-based NAS storage on premises, and that brings full elasticity and intelligent tiering to network-attached storage (NAS). The new storage class is available today on Amazon FSx for OpenZFS. Using Amazon FSx, customers can launch and run fully managed cloud file systems that have familiar NAS capabilities such as point-in-time snapshots, data clones, and user quotas. Before today, customers have been moving NAS data sets for mission-critical and performance-intensive workloads to FSx for OpenZFS, using the existing SSD storage class for predictable high performance. With the new FSx Intelligent-Tiering storage class, customers can now bring to FSx for OpenZFS a broad range of general-purpose data sets, including those with a large proportion of infrequently accessed data stored on low-cost HDD on premises. FSx Intelligent-Tiering delivers low-cost storage and costs up to 85% less than the FSx SSD storage class and up to 20% less than traditional HDD-based NAS storage on premises. With FSx Intelligent-Tiering, customers no longer need to provision or manage storage and get automatic storage cost optimization as data access patterns change. There are no upfront costs or commitments to use the storage class, and customers pay only for the resources used. FSx Intelligent-Tiering can be used when creating a new FSx for OpenZFS file system in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland), and Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo). For more information about this feature, visit the FSx for OpenZFS documentation page.

Amazon FSx for OpenZFS now supports on-demand data replication across AWS opt-in Regions
https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/openzfs/ now supports on-demand data replication across AWS opt-in Regions, enabling you to easily and efficiently transfer incremental point-in-time snapshots of your volumes beyond AWS Regions that are enabled by default. On-demand data replication provides a simple and resilient way to implement disaster recovery, replicate production data to a different Region or account, and enable lower latency data access for your global customer base or workforce. Amazon FSx for OpenZFS provides fully managed, cost-effective, shared file storage powered by the popular OpenZFS file system, with rich data management capabilities like snapshots, data cloning, and compression, along with sub-millisecond latencies and up to 10 GB/s of throughput. Opt-in Regions are AWS Regions that are disabled by default, in contrast to regions that are enabled by default. Previously, on-demand data replication was supported only between accounts in AWS Regions that are enabled by default. Starting today, you can replicate snapshots to and from opt-in Regions, expanding the AWS Regions where you can build cross-Region disaster recovery and data distribution architectures. On-demand data replication across opt-in Regions is available in all https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/ where Amazon FSx for OpenZFS is offered, including the supported opt-in Regions. There is no additional charge for on-demand data replication. Standard AWS data transfer charges apply when replicating across AWS Regions or accounts. To get started, visit the https://console.aws.amazon.com/fsx/ or refer to the https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/OpenZFSGuide/on-demand-replication.html. Amazon FSx for OpenZFS now supports creating Multi-AZ file systems in shared VPCs
Amazon FSx for OpenZFS now allows you to create Multi-AZ file systems in shared VPCs within your AWS organization, making it easier for you to decentralize network and storage administration. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/vpc/latest/userguide/vpc-sharing.html  is a feature that allows resource owners ("owner accounts") to share one or more VPC subnets with other accounts ("participant accounts") in their AWS organization. Participant accounts can then view, create, modify, delete, and manage their application resources in the subnets shared with them. Previously, participant accounts could create Single-AZ OpenZFS file systems in VPCs shared with them, but could only create Multi-AZ file systems in VPCs they owned. Starting today, participant accounts can create any FSx for OpenZFS file system in a shared VPC, allowing organizations to run highly available file systems with centralized network management. You can create Multi-AZ FSx for OpenZFS file systems from shared VPC participant accounts in https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/?refid=bc0b1108-3dde-4bd6-8c6b-5bc65141884a    . To learn more, visit the FSx for https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/OpenZFSGuide/what-is-fsx.html  and the https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/openzfs/   .

AWS Backup adds logically air-gapped vault support for Amazon FSx
Today, we are announcing the availability of AWS Backup logically air-gapped vault support for Amazon FSx for Lustre, Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, and Amazon FSx for OpenZFS. Logically air-gapped vault is a type of AWS Backup vault that allows secure sharing of backups across accounts and organizations, supporting direct restore to reduce recovery time from a data loss event. A logically air-gapped vault stores immutable backup copies that are locked by default, and isolated with encryption using AWS owned keys. You can now protect your Amazon FSx file system in logically air-gapped vaults in either the same account or across other accounts and Regions. This helps reduce the risk of downtime, ensure business continuity, and meet compliance and disaster recovery requirements. You can get started using the https://console.aws.amazon.com/backup/home, API, or CLI. Target Amazon FSx backups to a logically air-gapped vault by specifying it as a copy destination in your backup plan. Share the vault for recovery or restore testing with other accounts using https://aws.amazon.com/ram/ (RAM). Once shared, you can initiate direct restore jobs from that account, eliminating the overhead of copying backups first. AWS Backup support for the three Amazon FSx file systems is available in all the Regions where logically air-gapped vault and respective Amazon FSx file systems are supported. For more information, visit the AWS Backup https://aws.amazon.com/backup/faqs/, and https://docs.aws.amazon.com/aws-backup/latest/devguide/logicallyairgappedvault.html.

The new storage class is available today on https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/openzfs/. FSx Intelligent-Tiering can be used when creating a new FSx for OpenZFS file system in the following https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/: US East (N. Amazon FSx for OpenZFS Intelligent-Tiering storage class is now available in 8 additional AWS Regions
You can now create Amazon FSx for OpenZFS file systems with the Intelligent-Tiering storage class in 8 additional AWS Regions across the US, Europe, Asia Pacific, and South America. FSx Intelligent-Tiering is built for general-purpose file workloads such as file shares, archives, media libraries, and migrations from on-premises HDD storage. It automatically moves your data across three storage tiers (Frequent Access, Infrequent Access, and Archive) based on access patterns, and an optional SSD read cache keeps your active data fast. You get high performance for active workloads and low-cost storage for everything else, paying only for what you store with no capacity to manage. With FSx Intelligent-Tiering, you can save up to 85% compared to the FSx SSD storage class and up to 20% compared to on-premises HDD-based NAS. With this expansion, the FSx Intelligent-Tiering storage class is now available for FSx for OpenZFS file systems in the following additional AWS Regions: US West (N. California), Europe (London, Stockholm, Spain, Zurich), Asia Pacific (Hyderabad, Seoul), and South America (São Paulo). 🆕 Amazon FSx for OpenZFS now supports on-demand data replication across opt-in AWS Regions, enabling cross-Region disaster recovery and data distribution with no extra charge, just standard data transfer fees.

Amazon FSx for OpenZFS now supports on-demand data replication across AWS opt-in Regions
Amazon FSx for OpenZFS now supports on-demand data replication across AWS opt-in Regions, enabling you to easily and efficiently transfer incremental point-in-time snapshots of your volumes beyond AWS Regions that are enabled by default. On-demand data replication across opt-in Regions is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon FSx for OpenZFS is offered, including the supported opt-in Regions. There is no additional charge for on-demand data replication. Standard AWS data transfer charges apply when replicating across AWS Regions or accounts. To get started, visit the Amazon FSx console or refer to the on-demand replication documentation. To learn more, visit the Amazon FSx for OpenZFS product page.

VPC sharing is a feature that allows resource owners ("owner accounts") to share one or more VPC subnets with other accounts ("participant accounts") in their AWS organization. You can create Multi-AZ FSx for OpenZFS file systems from shared VPC participant accounts in all AWS Regions where Amazon FSx for OpenZFS is available. To learn more, visit the FSx for OpenZFS documentation and the FSx for OpenZFS product page.
