Amazon FSx for Windows File Server now supports Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
Amazon FSx now offers customers the option to use Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for access to Amazon FSx for Windows File Server file systems. More and more customers are adopting IPv6 to mitigate IPv4 address exhaustion in their private networks or to satisfy government mandates such as the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) M-21-07 memorandum. With this launch, customers can now access their file systems using IPv4, IPv6, or dual-stack clients without the need for complex infrastructure to handle IPv6 to IPv4 address translation. IPv6 support for new FSx for Windows File Server file systems is now available in all AWS Commercial and AWS GovCloud (US) regions where Amazon FSx is available, with IPv6 support for existing FSx for Windows File Server file systems coming in an upcoming weekly maintenance window. Amazon FSx for Windows File Server now supports File Server Resource Manager
Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, a fully-managed service that provides file storage built on Windows Server, now supports File Server Resource Manager (FSRM), a Windows Server feature that provides powerful capabilities to manage, govern, and monitor your file data. With FSRM, you can better control storage usage, strengthen compliance, and optimize costs across your FSx for Windows file systems. With this launch, you can now classify, identify, and control sensitive data using file classification and file screening, control storage usage and costs using folder-level quotas, and better understand and optimize your storage usage with storage reports. FSRM on FSx for Windows File Server is also deeply integrated with AWS observability services. You can publish FSRM events directly to Amazon CloudWatch Logs or stream events to Amazon Kinesis Data Firehose, allowing you to query, process, store, and archive logs, trigger AWS Lambda functions to take reactive actions based on file events, and perform advanced monitoring and analysis to automate administration of your file data. FSRM support is available today at no additional cost for new file systems in all AWS Regions where Amazon FSx for Windows File Server is available. Existing file systems will receive FSRM support during an upcoming maintenance window. To get started, visit File Server Resource Manager in the FSx for Windows User Guide and read the blog Using File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) on Amazon FSx for Windows File Server.

Amazon FSx now integrates with AWS Secrets Manager for enhanced management of Active Directory credentials
Amazon FSx now integrates with AWS Secrets Manager, enabling enhanced protection and management of the Active Directory domain service account credentials for your FSx for Windows File Server file systems and FSx for NetApp ONTAP Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs). Previously, if you wanted to join your FSx for Windows file system or FSx for ONTAP SVM to your Active Directory domain for user authentication and access control, you needed to specify the username and password for your service account in the Amazon FSx Console, Amazon FSx API, AWS CLI, or AWS CloudFormation. With this launch, you can now specify an AWS Secrets Manager secret containing the service account credentials, enabling you to strengthen your security posture by eliminating the need to store plain text credentials in application code or configuration files, and aligning with best practices for credential management. Additionally, you can use AWS Secrets Manager to rotate your Active Directory credentials and consume them when needed in FSx workloads. You can now use AWS Secrets Manager to store your domain join service credentials for all FSx for Windows file systems and FSx for ONTAP Storage Virtual Machines in all AWS Regions where they are available. For more information, see Amazon FSx for Windows File Server documentation and Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP documentation.

Amazon FSx now supports copying file system backups across AWS opt-in Regions
Amazon FSx now supports copying file system backups across https://docs.aws.amazon.com/glossary/latest/reference/glos-chap.html#optinregion (AWS Regions that are disabled by default) for Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, Amazon FSx for Lustre, and Amazon FSx for OpenZFS. This launch makes it easier for customers to meet business continuity, disaster recovery, and compliance requirements by extending cross-Region, cross-account backup and recovery capabilities beyond AWS Regions that are enabled by default. Amazon FSx is a fully managed service that makes it easy and cost-effective to launch, run, and scale feature-rich, high-performance file systems in the AWS Cloud. Opt-in Regions are AWS Regions that are disabled by default, in contrast to regions that are enabled by default. Previously, customers could copy Amazon FSx file system backups across regions enabled by default, within the same AWS account or across AWS accounts in the same AWS Organization. Starting today, you can copy backups into and out of opt-in Regions within the same AWS account using the Amazon FSx console, API, or CLI, or across AWS accounts in the same AWS Organization using AWS Backup. This allows you to design resilient, multi-account, cross-Region backup and recovery architectures across a broader set of AWS Regions. To get started, visit the https://console.aws.amazon.com/fsx  or the https://console.aws.amazon.com/backup. AWS Backup adds logically air-gapped vault support for Amazon FSx
Today, we are announcing the availability of AWS Backup logically air-gapped vault support for Amazon FSx for Lustre, Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, and Amazon FSx for OpenZFS. Logically air-gapped vault is a type of AWS Backup vault that allows secure sharing of backups across accounts and organizations, supporting direct restore to reduce recovery time from a data loss event. A logically air-gapped vault stores immutable backup copies that are locked by default, and isolated with encryption using AWS owned keys. You can now protect your Amazon FSx file system in logically air-gapped vaults in either the same account or across other accounts and Regions. This helps reduce the risk of downtime, ensure business continuity, and meet compliance and disaster recovery requirements. You can get started using the https://console.aws.amazon.com/backup/home, API, or CLI. Target Amazon FSx backups to a logically air-gapped vault by specifying it as a copy destination in your backup plan. Share the vault for recovery or restore testing with other accounts using https://aws.amazon.com/ram/ (RAM). Once shared, you can initiate direct restore jobs from that account, eliminating the overhead of copying backups first. AWS Backup support for the three Amazon FSx file systems is available in all the Regions where logically air-gapped vault and respective Amazon FSx file systems are supported. For more information, visit the AWS Backup https://aws.amazon.com/backup/faqs/, and https://docs.aws.amazon.com/aws-backup/latest/devguide/logicallyairgappedvault.html.
