AWS Transform now supports Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP (Public Preview)
Today, AWS announces the public preview of a new storage migration capability for AWS Transform that enables application owners, database administrators, and cloud migration teams to migrate block storage workloads from any on-premises or cloud source to Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP (FSx for ONTAP), alongside the existing Amazon EBS option. AWS Transform for migrations is an agentic AI service that automates the discovery, planning, and migration of workloads, accelerating infrastructure modernization with increased speed and confidence. FSx for ONTAP is a fully managed shared storage service built on NetApp's ONTAP file system, allowing you to migrate on-premises applications that rely on NetApp ONTAP or other storage appliances to AWS without having to change how you manage your data. Customers migrating to AWS have traditionally managed storage migration separately, using additional tools and workflows. With this new capability, AWS Transform replicates block storage data directly to FSx for ONTAP volumes as part of the same migration wave that handles compute and network, eliminating the need for intermediate storage platforms, separate migration tools, and the additional cost and risk they introduce. Whether migrating from NetApp ONTAP or any other storage platform, including block storage or NFS datastores in VMware environments, customers access a fully managed service that combines ONTAP's enterprise capabilities with the scalability and resiliency of AWS. To get started, visit https://aws.amazon.com/transform/migrations/. To learn more about the storage destination service, see the https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/netapp-ontap/ product page.

Amazon FSx now integrates with AWS Secrets Manager for enhanced management of Active Directory credentials
Amazon FSx now integrates with AWS Secrets Manager, enabling enhanced protection and management of the Active Directory domain service account credentials for your FSx for Windows File Server file systems and FSx for NetApp ONTAP Storage Virtual Machines (SVMs). Previously, if you wanted to join your FSx for Windows file system or FSx for ONTAP SVM to your Active Directory domain for user authentication and access control, you needed to specify the username and password for your service account in the Amazon FSx Console, Amazon FSx API, AWS CLI, or AWS CloudFormation. With this launch, you can now specify an AWS Secrets Manager secret containing the service account credentials, enabling you to strengthen your security posture by eliminating the need to store plain text credentials in application code or configuration files, and aligning with best practices for credential management. Additionally, you can use AWS Secrets Manager to rotate your Active Directory credentials and consume them when needed in FSx workloads. You can now use AWS Secrets Manager to store your domain join service credentials for all FSx for Windows file systems and FSx for ONTAP Storage Virtual Machines in all AWS Regions where they are available. For more information, see Amazon FSx for Windows File Server documentation and Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP documentation.

Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP now supports decreasing your SSD storage capacity
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, a fully managed shared storage service built on NetApp’s popular ONTAP file system, now allows you to decrease your file system’s solid-state drive (SSD) storage capacity, enabling you to more efficiently run project-based workloads with varying active working sets. You can provision SSD capacity upfront to meet peak usage needs—for periodic reporting, analytics, or large-scale data ingestion and processing—and then easily decrease SSD capacity to reduce storage costs. An https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/netapp-ontap/ file system offers two storage tiers: a provisioned high-performance SSD tier for your workload’s active working set and a fully elastic capacity pool cost-optimized for infrequently accessed data. Until now, you could only increase your file system’s SSD capacity as your workload’s active working set grew. Starting today, you can decrease your file system's SSD capacity in-place with just a few clicks in the Amazon FSx console, allowing you to deliver optimal performance during peak usage for workloads such as Electronic Design Automation and media processing, then scale down SSD capacity once data processing is complete. You can also accelerate data migrations by temporarily increasing SSD capacity to enable faster data ingestion, then right-sizing SSD capacity after data has been tiered to the capacity pool. You can decrease SSD storage capacity on all FSx for ONTAP second-generation file systems in all AWS Regions where FSx for ONTAP second-generation file systems are available. For more information, see the https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/ONTAPGuide/storage-capacity-and-IOPS.html#decreasing-ssd-capacity.

FSx for ONTAP now allows decreasing SSD capacity, broadening support for workloads with varying high-performance storage needs
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, a fully managed shared storage service built on NetApp’s popular ONTAP file system, now allows you to decrease your file system’s solid-state drive (SSD) storage capacity, enabling you to run project-based workloads with varying active working set sizes more efficiently. You can provision SSD capacity upfront to meet peak usage needs—for periodic reporting, analytics, or large-scale data ingestion and processing—and then easily decrease SSD capacity to optimize resource utilization and reduce storage costs. An FSx for ONTAP file system offers two storage tiers: a provisioned high-performance SSD tier for your active working set, and a fully elastic capacity pool cost-optimized for infrequently accessed data. Previously, you could increase a file system’s SSD capacity to meet your workload’s growing active working set but decreasing SSD capacity required migrating to a file system with smaller SSD capacity incurring administrative overhead and tolerating application downtime. Starting today, you can decrease your file system’s provisioned SSD capacity in-place with just a few clicks in the Amazon FSx console. You can deliver optimal performance to serve peak usage for workloads with varying high-performance storage requirements, including Electronic Design Automation jobs like chip fabrication and circuit simulation, and Media & Entertainment tasks like video editing and transcoding. Once data processing in SSD storage is complete, and results have been archived, you can decrease SSD capacity to optimize resource utilization. You can even accelerate large-scale data migrations by provisioning SSD capacity to temporarily accommodate more data in SSD, ensuring faster data ingestion, subsequently decreasing SSD capacity after data has been tiered to the capacity pool to optimize storage costs. You can decrease SSD storage capacity on all FSx for ONTAP second-generation file systems in all AWS Regions where FSx for ONTAP second-generation file systems are available. Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP now supports write-back mode for ONTAP FlexCache volumes
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, a service that provides fully managed shared storage built on NetApp’s popular ONTAP file system, now supports write-back mode for ONTAP FlexCache volumes. Write-back mode is a new ONTAP capability that helps you achieve faster performance for your write-intensive workloads that are distributed across multiple AWS Regions and on-premises file systems. FlexCache is an ONTAP caching technology that enables distributed access to data. Previously, FlexCache only supported write-around mode, where every write operation to a FlexCache volume had to go back to the origin volume before it was acknowledged, increasing write latency. Starting today, FSx for ONTAP now supports the new write-back mode for FlexCache. Write-back mode improves the performance of write-heavy workloads by caching writes locally on FlexCache volumes and asynchronously updating the origin volume, reducing write latency. You can now use write-back mode to improve write performance for write-intensive distributed applications such as collaborative content creation, distributed databases, and engineering workflows that need to operate across multiple AWS Regions or between cloud and on-premises environments. Starting today, you can enable FlexCache write-back mode at no additional cost on all FSx for ONTAP file systems in https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/ where the service is available. For more information, refer to the https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/ONTAPGuide/what-is-fsx-ontap.html.

Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP now supports ONTAP Autonomous Ransomware Protection
https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/netapp-ontap/, a service that provides fully managed shared storage built on NetApp’s popular ONTAP file system, now supports ONTAP Autonomous Ransomware Protection (ARP). ARP is a NetApp ONTAP feature that proactively monitors your file system for unusual activity and automatically generates ONTAP snapshots when a potential attack is detected, helping you protect your business-critical data against a broader set of ransomware and malware attacks. When enabled on your FSx for ONTAP storage volumes, ARP analyzes your workload access patterns to proactively detect suspicious activity – including changes in the randomness of data in files, the usage of unusual file extensions, and surges in abnormal volume activity with encrypted data – that might indicate a potential ransomware or malware attack. If activity is detected, ARP will automatically create a snapshot of the affected storage volume and generate alerts that you can monitor via EMS messages or the ONTAP CLI and REST API. By helping protect your file system against ransomware and malware attacks, ARP helps you maintain business continuity and improve data protection for your business-critical data stored on FSx for ONTAP. NetApp Autonomous Ransomware Protection is now available at no additional cost for all FSx for ONTAP file systems in https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regional-product-services/ where the service is available. For more information on how to enable ARP on your file system, see https://docs.aws.amazon.com/fsx/latest/ONTAPGuide/ARP.html. For detailed information on ARP, see https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/anti-ransomware/#autonomous-ransomware-protection-with-artificial-intelligence-arpai.
