When you uncover sensitive information, like adoptions or unknown relatives, it’s important to be thoughtful.

Respect people’s privacy. Don’t share personal details about living relatives without their permission

Believe it or not, some surnames have fewer than 10 people using them across the entire UK!

Once tied to families, places, or trades, some names are now incredibly rare!

How rare is your surname?

These names have been holding their spots at the top since the 1800s, and they’re not going anywhere fast! These surnames reflect how deep those historical roots run in British genealogy.

Is your family name on the list? 👀

A1 I know very little about why my ancestors immigrated -- I assume the French Huguenots came to SC for religious reasons. #ancestrychat

I am separating couples named John & Ann Horner. A defining record is a spinster’s probate where “two surviving sisters natural and lawful” were administrixes of her 1836 estate. So their two older “natural” sisters, Ann & 3xGGmother Mary, were dead. The field narrows. #ancestrychat #familyhistory
Here’s my Top Genealogical Tip of the day!

“Not everyone who has the same name is the same person.”

I hope it’s not too technical for you all but if everyone just understood that one basic fact, it would make wading through Ancestry’s online trees *SO* much easier.

That’s it. That’s all I’ve got…
