Russia spent a very long time perfecting the destruction of civil society in Syria. Its ‘masterpiece’ was conducted towards the end of the conflict in Aleppo, an ancient historic and sizeable city of 1.8 million in 2017. General Surovikin was its mastermind.

The Scutum of Dura Europos is the only surviving example of the famous rectangular shield carried by Roman legionaries. It was discovered in 1930s at the ancient city of Dura Europos in modern-day Syria, a Roman frontier settlement that became a battlefield in 256 AD.

Palmyra is an ancient city in central Syria. Archaeological finds date back to the Neolithic period. Palmyra changed hands between different empires before becoming part of the Roman Empire in the first century AD. The city grew wealthy from trade caravans with a peak in the 260s. #RomanSiteSaturday

If the land of Bahrain was once called Dilmun, the land of Oman and the UAE was once called Magan. In the early 2nd millennium BCE (2000-1750), we have evidence of trade all the way from Tell Hariri, Syria (ancient Mari) to Gujarat, India, the center of this trade along the Gulf.
