There are organized religions and religious denominations that do not recognize a god or gods. Atheism is not areligion, and being areligious or antireligious doesn’t automatically make you an atheist, either. A lot of antireligious people are still Christian, even if they don’t want to admit it.

this is absolutely heavily heavily influenced by my age and location but I would say 85% of the nonreligious (including antireligious) people I know grew up nones and have essentially 0 religious literacy

The idea that antireligious sentiment has never killed anyone because it's "rational" or whatever ignores that zealotry (and therefore willingness to kill) is not born out of irrationality. It is born out of excess conviction and lack of a healthy degree of self-doubt

This is part of a broader tendency to overemphasize the religious parts of Trump’s coalition and underemphasize the secular and even antireligious side.
One of the themes in the replies here is that "At least atheist aren't ruining the country like the Christians." And like, a significant part of the Trump movement comes from GamerGate, which had serious over lap with the mid 2010s capital A Atheism.

Even so, I am sure that, had I lived in Germany at the time, I would have aided and comforted my Jewish brothers. If today I lived in a Communist country where certain principles dear to the Christian faith are suppressed, I would openly advocate disobeying that country's antireligious laws.

I'm perhaps pathologically antireligious (organized religion i mean) but I also grew up around a guy who's a radical left/ liberation theology Methodist minister and is the most serious, dedicated peace and justice warrior I've ever met. He's spent decades traveling to Gaza, etc. Life is complex.
i left the church and have nothing to do with it anymore but something happens when i see priests and pastors and rabbis and imams and sikhs at protests going so hard in mega harsh conditions i get choked up. this is how all of that is supposed to be. that's what all of that is supposed to be for.

the divide is really between liberatory and authoritarian strains within religions and non/antireligions (personally I think the antireligious can't not be authoritarian because whether I believe or not is my choice, not yours).
