Violence against women, heretics, and nonbelievers isn't "Islamic" per se; these kinds of violence are found in every form of repressive politics.
Islam is above all a religion, and so its basic teachings (belief and worship; 'aqida and 'ibadat; etc) don't mandate a particular kind of politics.

You can follow any Madhab you want of course, but that doesn't have to keep you from acknowledging Madhahib that are not yours. While I disagree with the main principles of Salafi Aqida, for example, I do recognize its derivation from Hanbali Fiqh and its historical epistemology. Allahu'l A'lam

I think my personal aversion to some sufi practices, even ones that I find to be perfectly fine for others to do from an aqida or fiqh perspective, is partially my being overly cautious towards showy, charismatic forms of spirituality after being raised Pentecostal. (not a salafi to be clear)
