#ArkType
I compared 6 TypeScript validation libraries + a handwritten guard. 🤔

Same `User`. Same rules.

The surprise? Making 7 approaches mean the same thing was harder than making them compile. 😹

Full comparison! 🦐

Caching.

I've been comparing 7 approaches to runtime validation in TypeScript. 🤔

Native TS, is-kit, Runtypes, Valibot, Zod, ArkType, typia.

Same `User` type. Same validation rules.

But making them behave the same was harder than making them compile. 😹

Full comparison next Wednesday! 🦐

The hard part? Making them behave the same at runtime. 😹

Oh, yeah, Zod was pretty great, too. I ended up leaning a bit more on Arktype after I found it though.

but like yeah i don't think those abstractions are worth it

i had my phase where i was making all of these Arktype-inspired things but ... yeah

ArkType rules in, valid fixtures out.

fromArkType(User) samples values that satisfy every rule, like 'string.email'.

Break one and you get ArkType's own message: age must be at least 18 (was 15).

npm i -D @mimlet/arktype arktype@2.2.5

A casual reminder that Data is perhaps the best way to generate values out of any Standard Schema-compatible schema library (zod, arktype, valibot, etc).

It's not just data but a built-in, ORM-like querying for it, too.

Testing!

Zod, Valibot, ArkTypeの作者がValidationライブラリの型を統一しようと動いてるっぽい?すご。

i have a colossal list of projects that i earmark, only barely less than every single git project link i come across. i should totally mechanize this.

notably though it's usually things novel to me. so very obvious projects of interest get missed. examples today: arktype, valibot.

I am really enjoying @unjs.io / h3 + @arktype.io

arktype is to effect schema as android is to ios

ioa has a walled garden and locks you in but also is a nice overall experience

hmm effect is like we have rust at home
Arktype is the we have zod at home

Did you try arktype?

I've been a happy user of Zod for the longest time. It rocks. But the 2.0 release of @arktype.io looks jaw-droppingly good... Maybe time to switch..... Not sure... Looks incredible!

I'll try a proper parser (i.e. no string.split("\n") nonsense) and it'll support things like grouping, comment formatting, documentation, deprecations.

What it won't be is an env file validator (beyond syntax violations) as people can use things like zod, valibot or arktype.

I'm probably going to move to ArkType soon. This is so good. 🤯

DeepSeek aims to usher in a new era of affordable AI. 💡🤖 Devin.ai = an enthusiastic junior dev 🧑‍💻 - helpful, but not replacing real engineers just yet. 📜 Zod, ArkType, & Valibot unite to create Standard Schema, a common TS validation interface. ✅
