I'd like to say - GIMP or PhotoGIMP has basically most of the necessary features that Photoshop has, just not the AI slop, so does Inkscape with Illustrator.

I think it was @analogfusion.bsky.social that mentioned ArtCraft the other day. I finally got around to downloading the suite this evening & am comparing it to PS & LR. Since I retired from studio work my PS is less (still use LR). This "might" be a very good alternative vs a subscription.
