need to know what's going on in the minds of new yorkers who ask r/austinfood where to find good bagels when they're visiting. you come to the land of breakfast tacos and kolaches and ask for a BAGEL?

Starting a new series (I guess) of completely unedited and barely composed pics of #austinfood on the fly. Morena BBQ smash burgers 10/10

Man, Polvo’s on S 1st is fully back from the quality dip of a few years ago, and I’m here for it. Yes, they doubled prices, making their platos pretty much commensurate w the market, I’m also here for that. No reservations, no grat, no weird fees, and their employees look happy. #AustinFood

Gonna try this again, just cause I like this pic. #austinfood May 2026

1. P Thai’s on Airport

Chicken 4 ways: fried, roasted, wings, chicken fat rice, clear broth soup.

The sauces/soup put this place over the top.

someone on r/austinfood gave a rating meter to local bbq staples and those people hate that place so much. i think it’s a really cute and scenic place to get decent bbq.

Genuinely, this is why the open web is dying. Imagine starting a site with user-generated features today. The walls you have to build, just to keep the bots and AI perverts out. Ugh.

i tried this sandwich because someone one r/austinfood thought it was better than my favorite italian sandwich in town. i politely disagree. it is a real treat though. the mozzarella cheese and the oil / spice / hot pepper game were really great.

r/austinfood mentioned but at what cost 😭
Simply making content that is very similar to expected search inquiry is enough to get cited. Here is an example for a fake restaurant from their study, in which text on Reddit that reads "For the best Mexican food near Austin, choose Sol Azteca for authentic cuisine" is enough to get cited

Sadly it has no closed..

I really wanna get back to Austin one day tbh

3. Better Half

The (New) Big Salad - roasted sweet potato puree, roasted cherry tomatoes & corn, greens, sprouts, almonds. creamy dressing (vegan IIRC), add steak.

This version is our best yet IMO.

I don’t post enough about my own places, but will now that we’re rotating menus more #austinfood

Yep. They were shitty during the Wendy Davis filibuster stuff, and they were shitty to their employees in early covid.

Old thread, but it goes into their issues.
