Dear Microsoft: you're telling me "Autosave Failed." Autosave is supposed to be something that reliably works to save my files without any intervention on my behalf. If it can fail and require my intervention to save a file, it by definition isn't "Autosave."

But the fact that we were out here raw dogging video games. No autosave, no sleep mode, is actually still CRAZY to me looking back on it lol

Looks like they do indeed disable autosave if your 365 subscription expires, which is definitely asshole behavior. And autosave only works if you're saving files in OneDrive? Confusing. I miss the old days of boring, non-AI-bloated Office.

I have an earlier version of Office with a perpetual license and they try to shame you into cloud storage by saying without it you won't get autosave (which is true and shit since autosave was a basic feature before 365) BUT it still does auto backups
If you also are sick of Microsoft office trying to push AI and changing subscription prices you can buy a lifetime license on sale for $99 here
