Ventured to the Needles Overlook today to observe smoke from the #BabylonFire. Smoke was slow to clear from this morning. This might have played a role in a slightly less active fire this afternoon. We also found a neat rock formation.

A few intra-cloud lightning strikes are being detected in the vicinity of the #BabylonFire and the #FerrisFire by the Geostationary Lightning Mapper aboard the GOES-19 weather satellite. A few cloud-to-ground strikes are possible this afternoon.

Five structures were lost to the #BabylonFire in southeastern Utah as of Wed, 7/8, the US Forest Service confirmed, as crews faced extreme heat and fuel-driven winds.
