Why is Homo Sovieticus Hegseth wearing a Balliol College tie?
They’ve set up a meme combatant command basically.

interesting he’s there at the border fence with what some gangbangers and 60s fidelista types. Where the peer military he’s going to tangle with?

Oxford Colleges: Balliol, Hertford, Brasenose and St John's. Britain sure is pretty centralised isn't it.
Keir Starmer is this week conducting face-to-face interviews with four candidates to be Cabinet Secretary:

Olly Robbins
Antonia Romeo
Tamara Finkelstein
Chris Wormald

If he goes for Romeo or Finkelstein it would be the first female Cabinet Secretary in history

"I'll trust you sir."

Success. Am free, can cycle back.

Thank you Balliol.

The journalism equivalent is “after a brief stint at Cazenove, the Balliol-educated Archibald Astor-Arbuthnot VII, viscount of Kensington, was appointed financial editor of the Times”.
This is also typical if you read biographies of famous judges of yore.

“I moved to New York in the summer of 1955 and was soon offered a partnership at a law firm…”
The academic job market has changed just a bit

OK aware this is quite niche but it is pretty incredible that I can trace a folksong back to the early 1500s and then look in the digitised manuscript held online (real one is at Balliol).

So you know, well done the Bodleian & other libraries. #library

Estuary English. But is it normal for someone who got a first at Balliol?
"You know wot?" A phrase stolen from Farage and used repeatedly by Yvette Cooper on R4 Today earlier. They are not only using his policies, they are aping his speech.

"Good lord! Wimsey of Balliol!"
Most punters, especially tourists and other novices, adopt a somewhat erratic approach to steering: zig-zagging and bouncing from bank to bank is the norm in the vicinity of Magdalen Bridge.

Balliol College has unveiled a new sculpture of foundress Dervorguilla outside its student accommodation on St Cross Road. She gazes into the distance with a copy of the 1282 Statutes she gave to the College in her hand.
