A lot of people think you can skip putting the layer of the basecoat back down, but it really just doesn’t work out

I haven't tried any yet but the immediate appeal for me was the simple tone matching: get a 1, 3 and a 5 and you've got wash, basecoat and highlight with zero fuss or bother or looking things up in a colour-match app.

I always paint at least two-three different things at one time, I like having a choice of what to do: basecoat, highlight or whatever. Gives me a chance to paint something that takes 20 minutes or something that takes two hours.

That’s pretty much what I’m doing with all my old models, just using the original paint job as the basecoat then doing shading and highlighting on top. Unless the paint was super thick or anything.

Second guessing the white cape a bit. I think I need to share it down a bunch more or maybe swap it to a warm cream rather than a cool white? Thoughts?
I'll focus on the other bits to at least get a basecoat down before making a final call.

Post stream update, here is what I'm calling my first Red Team, painted for the #HaloFlashpoint Mantic Games #HaloFastGrow event. Tomorrow, I plan to start working on them earlier and pick out their undersuits, details, and weapons. If I have time, I might basecoat my blue team.
I know Mantic Games is not watching this platform for the #halofastgrow paint a squad in a week challenge, but sharing what I did here anyways: a Squad of ODST troopers dropping in hot from Prime to basecoat, late WIP to Finished and Battle-Ready.

Next I used Basecoat to bake normals, generate a lowpoly, and paint the albedo. It's very handy tool, i've tried baking a lowpoly w/ normals in blender once before and it was a long and confusing process. I intentionally went for a real low lowpoly and low res texture.
