When i first played Trails through Daybreak the first thing i said when i saw the new battlesystem (which incorporates free movement in a turn based system via movement circles) was:
Finally Holy Magic Century 2 (Quest 64 2 for you non-Europeans).

soz, I was under the impression that AD&D is considered yucky and not OSR adjascent by most in such circles? Having recently played through all of AD&D Dark Sun TSR adventures and it was kinda similar to 3.5 in a lot of ways. But I liked how it did initiative & spell interrupts. Battlesystem sux tho

The best edition of D&D is actually Battlesystem. (It's not groundbreaking or anything, but it's a well designed wargame. Probably the best designed D&D franchised product along with The Great Khan Game).
